Protecting civilians is a fundamental priority in armed conflict. At the 7th @CivCenter International Conference in Kyiv, Ambassador Mawhinney underscored the importance of protecting civilians and supporting communities affected by Russia’s war against Ukraine.

During her trip to western Ukraine, Ambassador Mawhinney visited Ostroh Academy, 🇺🇦’s oldest educational institution, now ranked among the country's top 5 universities. Ambassador toured the campus and joined a candid public discussion with university leadership and students.

Russia’s deadly attacks on civilians in Ukraine are barbaric and outrageous. Today, at least 33 people were killed as a result of a Russian strike on a scheduled passenger bus in #Kramatorsk. Our deepest condolences to all those affected by this tragedy.

On the morning of October 7, a Russian missile struck an apartment building in Pryluky, killing at least 14 people, including 4 children. Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the victims. They will not be forgotten. Russia must be held accountable for its actions.
