Did you know that before computers, linguists used shoeboxes to store lexical data? Nowadays, linguists have access to an array of advanced technology to aid them as they study languages. One program is even called 'Shoebox'.
Language developers work alongside communities to record, document and translate a language. At CanIL, we challenge our students to understand and translate words from raw phonetic data, using real-life examples to prepare our students for future language work.
