At @OAS_Official headquarters delegations from Argentina 🇦🇷, Colombia 🇨🇴, Costa Rica 🇨🇷, Jamaica 🇯🇲, Peru 🇵🇪, the Dominican Republic 🇩🇴, and Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹 are joining forces in a key hemispheric dialogue on alternatives to incarceration for minor and non-violent drug-related offenses.
Under the leadership of @CICAD_OAS and with support from Canada 🇨🇦(@CanadayOEA@CanadaFP@GAC_Corporate), the region is advancing the modernization of its criminal justice systems, including alternatives to incarceration (ATI) strategies through a comprehensive approach.
This cooperation has produced key results:
✅ Development and implementation of diagnostic studies, manuals, and technical protocols tailored to the realities of each participating country.
✅ Training and sensitization of thousands of justice, health, and social services professionals through a comprehensive, specialized Training Plan.
✅ Promotion of social integration by addressing the root causes of drug-related offenses among populations in vulnerable situations.
From #CICAD and the #OAS, we continue to build strategic partnerships across the region to advance transformative justice models, driving alternatives to incarceration firmly rooted in a comprehensive approach.

@CICAD_OEA held a high-level dialogue on gender and criminal justice together with @CIMOEA and @CIDH, bringing together representatives from different areas of @OEA_Oficial and international stakeholders to analyze the challenges to implementation of the gender approach in public policies, specifically those related to the criminal justice systems of the participating countries.
The activity took place within the framework of the “Gender in the Criminal Justice System” initiative, carried out with the support of the Government of Canada 🇨🇦 @CanadayOEA

The Inter-American Council for Integral Development of the OAS adopts by acclamation the proposal of the Secretary General to appoint Isabelle Valois @IsabelleValois6, a Canadian national, as Executive Secretary for Integral Development of the Organization.
We welcome the adoption by acclamation in the CIDI of the designation of Isabelle Valois @IsabelleValois6 of Canada as the new Executive Secretary for Integral Development of the @OAS_official.
We extend a warm welcome and wish her every success in this key responsibility serving the integral development of the Americas. @CanadaOAS
During #CICTE26, the delegation of @CanadaOAS 🇨🇦 presented the progress of the Working Group on Cooperation and Confidence-Building Measures in Cyberspace throughout 2025.
Among the main achievements, they highlighted:
🟦 Strengthening the implementation of confidence-building measures
🟦 Enhancing Points of Contact mechanisms
🟦 Promoting regional participation in global cybersecurity discussions
Looking ahead to 2026, Canada, as Chair of the Working Group, proposed a practical and progressive approach focused on strengthening participation, building capacity, improving coordination, and advancing toward more operational implementation.
On Wednesday, Canada, Haiti and France hosted a musical performance by the Choir of the Embassy of France, led by its Québec‑born artistic director, Simon Charette, including a rendition of “Je t’aime comme un fou” by Robert Charlebois. #francophonie#oas
Sylvain Lavoie, from the Centre de la francophonie des Amériques, underscored the vitality and diversity of the continent’s Francophone communities, the importance of building connections between them and empowering youth to help the Francophonie flourish. #FrancophonieAmériques

The @OAS_Official, through @CICAD_OEA, in partnership with @UNODC and with financial support of @CanadaFP@CanadaOAS 🇨🇦, is leading an international initiative to understand and address a complex phenomenon: the exploitation of individuals as drug couriers by transnational criminal networks.
“Addressing this issue is part of a broader commitment to multidimensional security, which includes the fight against transnational organized crime and drug trafficking, the prevention of recruitment, the reduction of structural vulnerabilities, and the strengthening of institutional resilience,” explained @ivancontente, Secretary of @OEA_Seguridad, within the margins of the @UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs #CND69.
The project coordinated by @CICAD_OEA includes Colombia 🇨🇴, Jamaica 🇯🇲, and Peru 🇵🇪, and, through collaboration with @UNODC, Kenya 🇰🇪 and South Africa 🇿🇦.
Its main lines of action include:
🟦 Strengthening the capacities of security, justice, and border control institutions.
🟦 Understanding the social and economic factors that facilitate recruitment by organized crime and drug trafficking networks.
🟦 Developing evidence-based responses that combine prevention, justice, and social reintegration.
Today, in the framework of #CND69 of @UN, several countries discussed this issue: Brazil 🇧🇷, Canada 🇨🇦, Colombia 🇨🇴, Peru 🇵🇪, and Spain 🇪🇸, together with @CICAD_OEA and @UNODC.
Canada welcomes the nomination of Haiti’s new Cabinet, appointed under Prime Minister Fils-Aimé. This is an important step in the transition of Haiti toward democracy.
Yesterday, Amb Savage participated in the closing for Canada’s #CFLI project with @funmujerural_e which strengthened the capacities of over 60 rural women leaders throughout the Americas to fight for their human rights.
