My new video is a song for an old poem by T. E. Moberly. It’s prayer for wise leadership after the death of Macdonald. I think the overall metaphor is that we must pick up the mantle of Macdonald to carry Canada forward to her rightful glory.

On July 28th, 1576, 450 years ago, Sir Martin Frobisher on his first expedition spotted land in Canada’s Arctic which he named “Queen Elizabeth’s Foreland” on Baffin Island at the entrance of Frobisher Bay, opening a new chapter of exploration in search of the Northwest Passage.

A painting by English explorer and artist John White, created during Frobisher’s 2nd expedition to Baffin Island, showing the flag of England with the arms of Elizabeth I, is the earliest contemporary depiction of the use of arms of “dominion and sovereignty” on Canadian soil.

In 1578 Sir Martin Frobisher began a third voyage to Baffin Island. After facing many storms & trials, with all but one ship being safe upon their departure, on Sept. 3, 1578 Rev. Robert Wolfall conducted the first Anglican Thanksgiving service in North America on Canadian soil.

Manly Macdonald was a renowned and widely exhibited painter of rural Canada. He resigned from the Ontario Society of Arts in 1951 on the basis that it was being dominated by modernists and not fulfilling its role of encouraging fine arts in Ontario.

90 years ago today, veterans, families and a King gathered at Vimy Ridge to dedicate a monument to Canada's missing in France. This program contains the lovely phrase "His Majesty will move among the Pilgrims." #OTD #WWI #Canada @RoyalCdnLegion

In 1942, off the coast of Cuba, the famous schooner, Bluenose, was carrying war supplies from Port Everglades to Havanna.

On the journey, a German Uboat surfaced and her captain yelled out in English, "what the bloody hell are you doing?"

The German Uboat captain continued, "you are the Bluenose, it is only because I love this vessel I don't blow you out of the water right now, get to shore or next time will be a different story"

The Uboat vanished as quickly as she had arrived.
