In 2004, Jeanna Giese-Frassetto rescued a bat from her church in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, and was bitten. However, she did not seek medical attention.

Three weeks later she was rushed to hospital where doctors confirmed she had rabies.

Doctors initiated an experimental treatment involving a combination of drugs, inducing a coma to safeguard her brain and provide her immune system with the necessary time to combat the infection.

Remarkably it worked, and she was released from the hospital virus-free after 75 days.

Jeanna became the world's first person to survive rabies without receiving a vaccine.

Jeanna underwent the process of relearning to walk, talk, and read, eventually graduating with her high school classmates.

Jeanna also completed college, got married, and is now a proud mother.
