The US no longer seek legal justification for its actions. This is what’s different from before in Afghanistan and Iraq and beyond --the abandonment of even the performative adherence to international legality signals a crisis of hegemony.

It is precisely within this rupture that Iran’s actions in the Strait of Hormuz must be situated. International law has never been external to power; it has been historically produced through encounters of imperial/powerful states. The so-called “War on Terror,” for instance, redefined the temporal and spatial limits of war not through consensus, but through the unilateral capacity of the United States to impose a borderless battlefield.

What we are witnessing now is a partial inversion of that process. Iran’s enforcement of regulatory authority in the Strait is not merely a legal claim—it is a materially grounded practice, enabled by its capacity to project force in a geographically strategic chokepoint. Law here does not precede power; it is articulated through it.

Iran’s position is effective not because it is legally unassailable in the abstract, but because it is backed by the means (force) to enforce a particular interpretation of maritime governance.

Do not let anyone deceive you with talk about improving conditions in Gaza. Nothing is improving here. We are witnessing the slow collapse of life in all its details, day after day.

Every day, the situation on the ground becomes more difficult. There is no real aid reaching people, and what is said about support does not match reality. People stand for hours in long lines at food distribution points for a single meal, and often the amount is not enough for everyone many return with nothing.

Access to clean drinking water has become nearly impossible in many areas. The available water is insufficient or not consistently safe to use, which increases families’ suffering day after day.

Hospitals are operating under extreme strain, with a severe shortage of medicines and medical supplies, and an inability to properly handle many cases, leaving patients without adequate care.

Children are living in extremely harsh conditions, with many having been out of education for long periods, and their lives completely changed. Electricity and basic services are almost absent in many areas, with severe damage to infrastructure, making daily life closer to mere survival than normal living.

🚨🇪🇨 Reports of sexual torture, mass starvation, physical abuse, and tuberculosis are emerging from Ecuador’s military-controlled prisons while the government expands security cooperation with U.S. Southern Command.

Drop Site contributor Camila Galarza-Zavala reports from Quito that one inmate died every seven hours over the past year, pushing prison deaths to their highest level in recent history and surpassing the era when drug cartels controlled the prison system. Among the detainees are former left-wing Vice President Jorge Glas, who lost 30 pounds and was found unconscious after allegedly being denied food and medical care; Omar Campoverde, a member of the Marxist Movimiento Guevarista, who says he was sexually assaulted by prison guards; and Aquiles Alvarez, the elected mayor of Ecuador’s largest city, who has been held by the state for the past three months.

The crackdown on political prisoners comes as Washington deepens its support for the Ecuadorian government, supplying Pentagon bombs and deploying military personnel.
