Ontario Update:
1) Every major teachers' union is about to go on strike
2) Ford is spending $48 million of your $ on ripping up bike lanes
3) Ontario has biggest deficit in its history and smallest funding per person on education and healthcare
4) The new subway line is billions over budget
Tell us again about Conservatives fiscal responsibility?
$60 million. To an American company. In the middle of a trade war.
Doug Ford's Staples Sweetheart Deal is a fiasco. And taxpayers are getting ripped off.
We're calling on the Auditor General to do a full value-for-money audit.
Bribery cheques = parents now being asked to send in toilet paper for their child to use at school, non-verbal students with Autism wandering off of school property alone with no educational assistant to keep them safe, and educators wearing Kevlar. This is #OntEd under Ford.
Ontario's public education system has been shortchanged by a cumulative $6.5 billion since 2018 because funding has failed to keep pace with inflation and growing student enrolment.
The consequences are clear: larger class sizes, fewer teachers and educational assistants, growing repair backlogs, and students with special education needs being left without the supports they deserve.
Ontario's students, families, and educators deserve better. It's time to stop the distractions, properly fund our schools, and invest in the classrooms where our children learn and thrive. #onpoli #onted

Ontario now has a $6.5 billion school funding gap under Doug Ford.
Where has the money been redirected? Cheques, especially before the last election.

In #OntEd Doug Ford has decided that it’s cheaper to dress education workers in Kevlar to lessen their injuries than to pay for the proactive supports that prevent meltdowns and escalation in the first place and keep children and staff safe. #FundOurSchools
Some MAGA supporters are so stupid that they actually believe the United States is going to own Greenland.
Greenland is not being transferred to the United States, and its sovereignty remains intact. The new agreement explicitly recognizes the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Denmark and the Greenlandic people’s right to self-determination.
The agreement builds on the existing 1951 Defence Agreement, under which the United States already had broad military access to Greenland.
The name Lake Ontario comes from the Wendat word Ontari’io, which, appropriately, means “the lake is beautiful, the lake is big”.
The name is more than 400 years old, predating both the Confederation of Canada and the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America.
We know that America is changing. Their trading relationships, their foreign policies, their national monuments, their hydronyms.
Canadians also know that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario – then, now and always.
@atrupar He’s the jilted ex who keeps texting Canada at two in the morning to announce he’s cutting its face out of every vacation photo, changing the name of the lake they shared, and doing GREAT, actually.
Meanwhile Canada has muted him, rolled over, and gone back to fucking sleep.
I was given my name by the Iroquois Nation many hundreds of years ago. By 1660 my name was printed on maps by the Europeans as they accepted the Native name which means Beautiful waters.
In 1867 the Canadian government decided to use my name for their providence.
My favourite analysis so far of Canada walking away from the trade talks, from Down Under (be sure to read the glossary of terms at the end). https://t.co/Gv0G0Rw5DZ
For over a year, Canada has worked intensively and in good faith with the United States to negotiate a new comprehensive trade deal. We have been pragmatic, patient, and persistent. Our goal has always been to get the best deal for Canadians, never a deal at any price or on any time frame.
Late last evening I instructed our negotiators to return to Ottawa. We cannot accept what the U.S. has offered, and we will not give what they have asked.
Canada will match the U.S.’ new tariffs dollar for dollar in order to protect Canadian workers, farmers, families, and businesses. We take this step confident that it is in the best interests of Canada.
In the coming days, we will release the details of these new tariff measures, which will come into force the Tuesday after Labour Day.
