Let's normalize asking the MEN on the dev teams to write documentation, take notes, and talk to the client.
Because I'M NOT YOUR WORK MOM.
And I can code, too.π
Despite a disconnected supply duct in the unconditioned attic, our home still passed an @ENERGYSTARHomes certification review by a RESNET QAD qualified rater. Our electric bills were north of $600/month and it greatly impacted our IAQ.
@EnergyVanguard@_brianpotter#iaq#energy
@iambillmccann Exactly. What are the chances we (they and me) would ever have worked with the same people, on the same team, project, etc.? When is the last time you were the only male technical resource you worked with? Probably never.
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Many of the yucky things we breathe in from poorly ventilated indoor spaces are diluted and detoxed via urine. π₯€π₯€π₯€
Also, open the windows and/or get you an ERV (energy recovery ventilator)! πͺπ
I think @t3dotgg saved my life...
For the past year, I've had severe brain fog. Unable to concentrate, unable to retrieve certain words, and constant complaints to my psychiatrist that I felt like I was only cognitively half there. Just a complete and total reduction in what I know I was capable of getting done.
Lot's of tests, blood work, doctor visits, nothing...
We assumed that it was just my Bipolar meds finally catching up and leading to cognitive decline. I've been stable on these meds for a few years and was faced with switching meds & the possibility of life shattering mania or trying to fight on with a cognitively empty tank. I fought on...
I typically spend 10+ hours a day teaching/streaming/working in my home office. Also, we have a guest bed in there, so it is not uncommon for me to nap/sleep over night in there too. One of my doctors recommended I check the air quality of the room in which I spend so much time, so I bought an air quality monitor and everything seemed fine.
Fast forward to me seeing @t3dotgg post with their CO2 monitor and I had a lightbulb moment of panic wondering if my office has a build up of CO2 which would explain my cognitive issues... I checked my monitor and realized it only monitored CO AND NOT CO2. This whole time I thought I was in the clear and bought it specifically for CO2, but I had been looking at the completely wrong thing... I blame the cognitive impairment π’
I bought TWO CO2 monitors and yeah... under my normal conditions I'm sitting at ~1800ppm and I've seen it spike to 2500+ regularly
"In fact, at 1400 ppm, CO2 concentrations may cut our basic decision-making ability by 25 percent, and complex strategic thinking by around 50 percent, the authors found." - https://t.co/jqyxGUg7Ct
The science is a little all over, but safe to say I have been messing up my brain for a few years...
Since I am teaching / streaming, my windows are closed and even my door has a dampening sheet to cut down on noise and echo. I'm looking into ways of bringing fresh air in without introducing noise and working with my doctors to help reverse the effects of what I've been going through...
So PLEASE check your air quality esp CO2
If you are a content creator please get some fresh air and take some breaks while streaming/recording esp if in a "sound proof" room with all the windows closed for hours every day... π
@leonnoel@t3dotgg Also, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! (With good quality water.) Most of the yucky things we breathe in from poorly ventilated indoor spaces are detoxed via urine. π₯€π₯€π₯€
I've been interviewing for 2 months and I'm taking the lowest offer received.
It will be a 26.5% pay cut.π΅
I could not be happier because I'm EXHAUSTED.π₯΄
I don't know how/when I subconsciously decided that (more) money & promotions = success.
But it's time to reprioritize.π
My new role will be in the public sector, which resonates more with my values.
Success looks different for everyone and can change with life stages. Whatever it means for you, I hope you find it. And don't ever apologize for seeking it out.
OOOOHHH, I get it now.
AI is like husbands.
It can complete simple, repetitive tasks given.
But it cannot initiate complex, comprehensive tasks on its own. (yet)
Let me know when artificial intelligence surpasses husband intelligence.π«‘
@mattstratton At a tech conference in Vegas, guy I had worked with for years suddenly went full stalker on me. He followed me everywhere and called my room if I missed a single session. I was so creeped out but also TERRIFIED b/c he was our comp's lead architect. Guy had a wife and 2 kids. π
@mattstratton I seriously don't know what it is about conferences that brings out the dark side of toxic tech bros. Perhaps just the mix of alcohol and time away from home/family.
Can we start a thread of folx who have been the victim of harassment at a tech conference?π
I'll start.
@leonnoel@t3dotgg Look into an ERV (energy recovery ventilator) for adding active, mechanical ventilation to a building or room. Most of the available ones will require ductwork but there are some ductless ones out now too.

@leonnoel@t3dotgg requirements, despite multiple health agencies and vocational agencies recommending them. So far, I believe only CA has set minimum ventilation rates for new construction and renovations.
