Y’all, I think I’mma challenge myself to read a book a week this year.
Mostly fiction, Black authors and literary classics only (cuz I wanna finally finish Anna Karenina 😩)
That means I should start & finish 52 titles by December 31, 2024.
Just last week, I was AGAIN clad in cold weather wear, pushing a cart full of groceries, when someone asked where they could find the polenta. My crime? Being Black and wearing an Eagles hoodie in Sprouts.
The man apologized profusely. He knew.

I was wearing a puffer coat, gloves, scarf & backpack - not to mention pushing around a cart full of groceries. She didn’t even say “excuse me,” before asking if there was more of whatever meat she needed in the back.

Therapy & the drugs are working.
My family by love & blood show me everyday how much I am loved & am worthy of love.
I never stopped reading.
I’m still fine as frog hair.
I have more talent in my pinky toes than most you hoes & that’s just facts.
May God Bless & Keep You.

This is one of my favorite things about Nikki Giovanni. She was down for black youth in a way a lot of our elders werent. She lit Bill Cosby up in 2007 when he got on his anti black youth shit and he was echoing all the disconnected shit so many of us heard before from our elders. She was our cool aunt. She radiated love and understanding for black youth. She will be missed dearly. 🌹
Meanwhile, they were ready to cut mine out immediately at UCLA when some radiology fellow mistook my cystic right ovary for an apparently bout to burst appendix.
“If somebody doesn't help me, I'm going to die," she recalls wailing, watching doctors and nurses pass her by.
"Somebody said to me, 'I don't know what you expect me to do,'" she said. "'You're a healthy 21-year-old young female.'"
This is exactly what happened to me at 24… 🧵
This is why they ban books. This is why they want to erase history. This is why they want to get rid of the Department of Education: to keep people ignorant.
My doctor prescribing anxiety meds on Election Day feels akin to when I applied and got approved for SNAP 2 days before we went into lockdown in 2020.
Like honestly WTF
I’ve dealt romantically with 2 people who demonstrate narcissistic tendencies and they both only use androids. You do with that information what you wish…
