#OnThisDay in 1859, John Brown began his raid of the federal arsenal at Harper's Ferry, WV. A radical abolitionist, Brown became angered by the Fugitive Slave Act and led 19 men into armed combat. Brown met massive resistance and was executed after the rebellion failed.
