FIREFIGHTING THUNDER LIZARD
Canmore Fire Rescue’s 100’ Bronto Skylift operating on the delta side of the fire at the staff accommodation in Lake Louise.
Brontosaurus means “thunder lizard”. It's a big, expressive name, and very evocative of a modern fire attack behemoth.
MANY HANDS MAKE LIGHT WORK…
We have a proud tradition of female firefighters in the Bow Valley. Here, a Banff firefighter is helped into her gear and “buddy checked” before entering a recent structure fire on Banff Avenue. #WomenInFire
We are honoured to have seven members of Canmore Fire Rescue, and #Baillie🐾 our search dog, on this All Hazards Disaster Response Team. @CANTF2 can be deployed provincially, nationally and possibly internationally, in response to a major incident that overwhelms local agencies.
Urban Search and Rescue (#USAR) is one of the core capabilities of the Canada Task Force program. We frequently hold exercises as a way to bring together the multiple disciplines that make up this capability
Check out some scenes from our October exercise
We have changed our name to @CanmoreFF_Assoc, to be consistent with our Facebook page. Follow us for an insight into the work of our paramedic firefighters. We will also continue to post local safety and public information messages here.

EXTINGUISHED!
All crews have now been pulled off the Dead Man’s Flats fire (CWF-108). The fire is considered #extinguished. Great job by @AlbertaWildfire and all the supporting cast, on the ground and in the air.
THE RAIN DID IT’S JOB!
The ground personnel on the Deadman’s Flats wildfire (CWF-108) only found 4 hot spots today, and are dealing with those. Demob of equipment has begun. As crews are on site today, the highway is back to 50km/h through the burn section. #ABRoads
“CWF-108 is currently classified as BEING HELD at 6 hectares. So with our committed resources, sufficient suppression action has been taken that this wildfire is not likely to spread beyond the existent boundaries under prevailing and forecasting conditions….
AND NOW THE CLEANUP BEGINS
Hoses & equipment to wash, trucks to clean & inventory, personal gear to launder & most important…firefighters to decontaminate. Spare a thought for all the 1st responders. Some will be home in an hour or two, many will still be on shift until the AM.
ENGINE-1, UTILITY-2, UTILITY-1 and SPU-1; along with @ExshawFire’s 169-TENDER, 169-ENGINE & 169-BUSHBUGGY; & a water tender from Kananaskis Emergency Services, have been released. @AlbertaWildfire have assumed command of all operations on the 10 ha fire east of Deadman’s Flats.
Our Incident Commander on the wild land fire at Deadman’s Flats has just informed us that the initial attack crews from Canmore will be relieved and should be returning to STATION-1 shortly.
A busy day for response agencies in the valley continues.
With @ExshawFire engaged on a large #GrassFire in Morley, ENGINE-2 is responding for a large brush/grass fire along #Hwy1 EB lane, east of Deadman’s Flats. #ABRoads
