We need a term for when an artist gets too famous so releases something daring and unconventional to burn off half the fan base because it seems weird to say "this is her Perverts"
I just came across this video of "Jolene" played at 33 rpm. It's haunting and oddly magnificent. One of the comments said, "Billy Cyrus out here just tryna keep his man", which tickled me.
The most ruthless truth you need to face today is that you are rapidly aging out of the window where people will tolerate your lack of emotional intelligence just because you're young, attractive, or "figuring it out." In your early twenties, people will coddle your poor communication, your silent treatments, and your habit of pulling away when things get hard. They excuse it as you being "mysterious" or just going through a phase.
But the older you get, that exact same behavior stops being quirky and starts making you a massive liability. High-value people, whether that’s romantic partners, good friends, or mentors, do not have the time or the desire to decipher your moods, chase you when you ghost, or teach you basic accountability. They won't fight with you or try to "fix" you; they will just quietly distance themselves. You aren't "outgrowing" everyone; people are just no longer willing to grade your immaturity on a curve.
You cannot go anyhwere in the US anymore without feeling taking advantage of. Every restaurant, every lease agreement, every purchase. Everything is so blatantly predatory. Like they don't even care to be subtle about the fact that they're operating in bad faith.
And we're all just submissive to it
please let gay men have bad style and be effeminate. not everywhere is Bushwick! there are normal gays out there who go to the One gay bar in their state and tip their wallet to queens who say “the more you drink the prettier I look” vital to the great ecosystem of queerness!
A new study analyzed my first session with a grieving client alongside sessions by Robert Neimeyer and Diana Fosha. Three therapists, three different orientations, all treating grief.
What they found surprised almost no one who knows the history: we were more alike than different. All three of us helped clients make new meaning of their experience. All three used some version of the empty chair technique.
The methods looked different on the surface. The underlying humanity didn't. ACT has unexpected allies everywhere. This paper shows it in a way I find genuinely moving.

a taboo part of researching "cults" that's hard to responsibly explicate is that unfortunately you often have a situation where the "cult" is the first group of people to empower someone and correctly inform them that everyone else in their life sucks and is clearly bad for them
You could get in your car with $500 in your pocket and drive to the other side of the country and start your life over. You could rent an apartment with just your name and some money. You could get a job just by walking in a place. It was an entirely different world.
adults are supposed to reckon with this feeling — the sense that the world was whole, sensible, and suffused with meaning in childhood and no longer is — by reading novels and thinking about death and cultivating some irony about life. I suspect these guys don't do those things.
I get yelled at for saying this but for many hundreds of years people went to university not to get diplomas or be employable but because immersion in the humanities was considered foundational to a good life, and school must return to its original purpose: the joy of learning.
speaking as glibly as Beavis & Butthead. does T***p even grasp the profound significance of what he has set in motion in the Middle East? this person whose most essential self is riding in a golf cart fatly, cheating at the profoundly insignificant game of leisure golf when he assumes no one is looking.
Something that breaks my heart as a Millennial is how fucking optimistic and fun our teenage years and 20s were. Like we envisioned a TOTALLY different world from the one that we've got and insanely divorced from what Gen-Z are experiencing. It's hard to put in words how fantastic we thought life was gonna be and how it seemed like we were making tangible social progress. We've had all of that ripped away from us.
