The real story here is that corporate lawbreaking is so prevalent and facilitated that they literally just budget for the fines because the money involved means so little to them.
You can't make this up:
Google now has a literal line item in their quarterly reports called "European Commission fines."
$10.5 BILLION as of September 30th.
The EU has become so heavily regulated that fines are a "normal" line item now.
What is happening in Europe?
People on the Left often complain about the BBC being too right wing, while people on the Right accuse it of left wing bias. Now, to me that says it must be fairly balanced.
Has it fucked up a few times? Yes. What media outlet hasn't? Should it be destroyed because of this? I don't believe so.
And YES - I have a show on @BBCSounds so you can legitimately say I have a vested interest. But this isn't about me, and I genuinely think it would be a tragedy to lose the BBC.
@MattGubba@ZackPolanski Counterpoint: the UK should not allow the economy to be held hostage to the demands of a few oligarchs who hold disproportionate power due to unearned wealth.
@brandilwells People have been claiming to channel non-human superior powers and “speaking in tongues” since religion was invented. This is just the same old nonsense with a different divine being.

Sometimes I’m sure the reason us brits were taught to laugh & banter at the french was to see their revolutionary spirit as childish. To subdue us brits into complacency and never demand more.
Go on u french bastards 🇫🇷💪
It is a totally indefensible position. Because it’s also a straw man you’ve made up to dodge the actual point being made, which is that inheritance tax is paid on money that the recipients did not earn. It’s also only paid on large inheritances, so doesn’t affect most people.
So my children have no right to inherit my money but some obese EBT welfare queen does have a right to inherit my money?
Moral madness. Totally indefensible position.
Rent to high?
That's capitalism
Wages down?
That's capitalism
Shopping too expensive?
Capitalism too.
Planet dying?
Also capitalism.
The problem is capitalism.
"Women were given rights and chose to destroy civilisation rather than do their duty" is going to be well-remembered by those civilisations which succeed us.
@cafreiman Under capitalism, you make more money by monopolising essential services and vital products and then price gouging them while simultaneously lowering costs via underpaying workers, cutting corners and failing to invest in order to maximise profits.
@vibrantdad Yes but it won’t be done because any company making a product that lasts will be bought out and asset stripped by competitors who want to make products you have to buy again every 3-5 years so they can make more money.
@Setzes1@jaycansea@fishercatMaine@vibrantdad Capitalism is, in fact, competition for who can sell the cheapest product for the highest cost. The difference is called profit and is the only motivating factor under capitalism.
