"Oops!... I Did It Again" is the lead single from Britney Spears' second album. Released in April 2000 (the album came out in May), the song was written and produced by Max Martin and Rami Yacoub, the same duo behind "...Baby One More Time". Recorded in late 1999, when Britney was 17 (she turned 18 in December), the track marks the transition from the "innocent" image of the first album to a more confident and provocative version.
It reached #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 in about 20 countries, including UK, Australia and several in Europe. The album sold 1.3 million copies in its first week, a record at the time for a female artist, only surpassed by Adele in 2015.
The video was a phenomenon on MTV and helped cement Britney as the biggest pop star of the early 2000s.
