July 8 now holds a special meaning for many Pokémon fans, a day to remember the voices behind Team Rocket’s legacy ❤️

Rachael Lillis and James Carter Cathcart (Jimmy Zoppi) gave life to one of anime’s most recognizable villain trios. Lillis brought Jessie’s attitude, drama, confidence, and comedy to the screen, while Cathcart later carried James and Meowth through years of schemes, disguises, running gags, and emotional moments.

The date carries an even deeper weight: July 8 was Rachael Lillis’s birthday, and it was also the day James Carter Cathcart passed away in 2025. Rachael had passed away less than a year earlier, on August 10, 2024.

For generations of fans, Team Rocket was more than comic relief. Jessie, James, and Meowth were part of Pokémon’s heart, funny, flawed, dramatic, oddly lovable, and always unforgettable.

Today is a day to remember the people who helped make Team Rocket feel alive.
