A HUGE thank you to @JonMartinEsq for having the courage to do what’s right. Thanks for removing section 48 from SB290. Your leadership is unrivaled. @GlyphosateGirl
BREAKING: The disparagement clause (Section 48) of SB 290 has been stripped from the Senate bill! Nearly 10,000 emails and 2,000 calls made this happen. Public engagement works. Continuing to keep an eye on the house version that’s still out there.

FLORIDA POLITICIANS ARE FIGHTING TO TAKE AWAY FREE SPEECH
After Wednesday’s House hearing on HB 433, we pressed the bill sponsor for answers about the bill’s disparagement provision, a clause that threatens the First Amendment and protects big industry.
Instead of answers, we caught a legislative aide secretly recording us.
This provision:
-Expands food libel law to protect Big Sugar and Big Chem
-Makes it legally risky to criticize ag practices
-Silences the public through intimidation
After an hour of opposition testimony, the sponsor claimed this provision won’t change anything.
So why the secrecy?
Why no answers?
And why rush this bill through?
Because powerful special interests want it, and they don’t want scrutiny.
The First Amendment is not up for negotiation.

The Florida state legislative session is underway, and we’re paying close attention to the decisions being made that could impact our waterways and the places we love.
THIS ⬇️
“Florida's economy relies on that same beautiful coastline, vibrant tourism industry, and sustainable fisheries. In fact, Florida's beaches alone generate more than $127.7 billion per year in tourism spending and support over 2.1 million tourism-related jobs. Unfortunately, all these resources suffered devastating harm during the Deepwater Horizon oil spill of 2010.”
Thank you to Florida's congressional delegation for standing up.
Our guides & businesses know firsthand the harm from a spill.
ICYMI: @SenRickScott and I led Florida's entire congressional delegation in sending a letter to President Trump encouraging him to reject any potential plans from @Interior that would violate his moratorium banning oil drilling off
Florida's coasts.

This is exactly why we must stay engaged in the fight for clean water 💪
Capt. Rufus made it clear at our guide rendezvous yesterday—progress only continues if we remain active and outspoken. We can’t let up. And we must keep bringing more people into the effort so our collective voice grows stronger.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” -Margaret Mead
So, let’s stay engaged. And let’s get others engaged too. Together, we can make a real difference, and safeguard Florida’s waters for generations to come.
