As the Battle for Tololing raged, Lt Col Joshi was thrust into command amidst intense conflict, demonstrating exemplary courage and strategic acumen. His unwavering presence on the frontline galvanised his troops, leading them through treacherous terrain and relentless enemy fire, to a decisive victory at Point 5140.

Jun 14-20 Battle of Pt. 5140
13 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles led by Lt.Col. @YkJoshi5 VrC (Lt. Gen. Retd.), Maj. S Vijay Bhaskar VrC, Maj. Gurpreet Singh SM Gallantry, Capt. Vikram Batra PVC and Capt. Sanjeev Singh Jamwal VrC.
Rocky Knob at the base of pt. 5140 provided the best attack plan. With Arty Bofors support fire, A Company of 13 JAKRIF under the exceptional leadership of Maj.S. Vijay Bhaskar captured Rocky Knob. For the capture of Pt. 5140, 13 JAKRIF along with 18 Garhwal Rifles, 1 Naga carried out ops supported by Div Arty.
B and D Company of 13 JAKRIF climbed the vertical south slope and attacked the enemy by surprise. Capt. Sanjeev Singh Jamwal (refer to pic 2) displayed exceptional courage and leadership to achieve the objective. Awarded Vir Chakra.
Capt. Vikram Batra PVC (refer to pic 3) killed 4 enemies in this operation. Capt. Batra radioed Lt. Col. Joshi the success signal 'Yeh Dil Mange More’.
Also remembering the valour of NK. Dev Parkash and Rif.Meher Singh.

During #Kargil War, Captain Sanjeev Singh, Naik Dev Parkash and Rifleman Mehar Singh displayed raw courage & dogged determination under heavy enemy fire to capture strategically important #Pt5140. They, with nerves of steel, physically assaulted the enemy and neutralised them in hand-to-hand fight. Awarded #VirChakra.
