He doesn't have facial scars that he likes to lick and he definitely doesn't need cheap makeup to look like a clown.

Ledger is the direct reason why Phoenix & Leto thought what they did would be acceptable.

They've slowly eased into a RENDITION of a Terry McGinnis Batman symbol for a Bruce Wayne Batman movie.

The differences are minute.
