@TrisOsborneMP@TrisOsborneMP Good news on unemployment, but the 'decade plus' line doesn't stack up. GDP was flat (0.0%) in Q2 and Q4 2025, so it's not unbroken growth. And the UK went nearly seven years without a contraction from 2012 to 2019. 'No contraction since 2023' would be accurate.
@LeaderofKCC@Andrew__Kennedy Andrew has always struck me as measured and principled.
Those working with complex balance sheets know that “savings” and “debt reduction” can vary by timeframe and accounting treatment.
Healthy, transparent scrutiny should be welcomed, not personalised.

@cllrtrisosborne My concern is that 20% fee increase is a lot, and a lot of independent parents who pay tax for schools already. Will take their children out of the private system, leading to the public system to fall over. We know already that schools are oversubscribed.
@cllrtrisosborne Case by case is fine; and as it should be. But the manifesto isn’t laid out that way and the numbers don’t add up. You’ll have an influx of students from the independent sector, which hasn’t been costed. You’re going to need to build schools too, approx 40 of them.
@cllrtrisosborne 6,500 teachers, and the pledge for 3,000 retro fitted nurseries still won’t be enough. As the IFS estimate (best case) that the public sector will have an influx of 20k students from the independent sector. The system can’t cope now, never mind with 20k more students.
@cllrtrisosborne Understood, but the funds won’t be enough. You’ll need an average of £40,000 to retro fit nurseries into current primary schools. This is what I mean, the numbers don’t add up, it seems a rushed and ill thought out “pledge”.
@cllrtrisosborne @UKLabour@Conservatives Sorry, I'm not asking about business, even though I run one. I also have children in independent schools so lets bring it back to that. The manifesto states 3,000 nurseries for £35m, that's £11,667 per nursery + 6,500 teachers. 2.1 Teachers per Nursery?
@cllrtrisosborne Thanks for replying. My concern is that the numbers in the manifesto don't add up. As you went to Kings, could your parents/guardians have afforded a 20% increase in fees (via VAT) while already contributing to the school system through income tax, etc.?
