Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1 came out in the US 38 years ago today, on October 18, 1988. It started with a B-side. George Harrison needed one for a single, and over dinner, Jeff Lynne and Roy Orbison offered to help. Bob Dylan had a studio in his garage in Malibu, and on his way over, George stopped at Tom Petty's house to get a guitar he'd left there and invited Tom along. They cut "Handle with Care" the next day, and it was too good to be a B-side, so the five of them got together again in May and recorded the rest of the album in nine days. It reached No. 3 in America and won a Grammy. Roy died in December, less than two months after it came out.

On this day in 1957, Paul McCartney played with John Lennonβs Quarrymen at New Clubmoor Hall in Liverpool. Paul was so nervous he flubbed his guitar solo. Nobody knew they were watching the beginnings of The Beatles.
Music Radar: βI said, 'Dad, what you did with The Beatles was kind of amazing, wasnβt it?β He looked at me and said, βNot as amazing as Brian Wilsonββ: Giles Martin on the overwhelming talent of Brian Wilson βΒ https://t.co/2c051BmeDZ
More than 60 years after its original release, The Beatlesβ βRubber Soulβ has returned to No. 2 on the UK Official Albums Chart. The 1965 classic also topped the Official Vinyl Albums Chart, outselling every other album on wax.
Wow. Feeds are so clean since Ukraine wiped out those Russian data centres. Much less MAGA, Maple MAGA, pro-Elon, Alberta Separatist, anti-vaxxer, Christian nationalist, anti-immigrant, and far-right bullshit.
Itβs nice, innit? Imagine if the rest of those centres went down.
