v6 of Umineko City of Books just went live. it's a site i've been building for When They Cry fans, Umineko, Higurashi, Ciconia and the smaller ones, to keep all the stuff this fandom usually scatters across a dozen different sites in one place.

here's what's actually in it because at this point the site does a genuinely stupid amount of stuff and most people have no idea how much is packed into it:

Game board: a twitter style feed split into corners for each series, with posts, polls, comments, likes, link embeds, a gif picker and @ mentions. this is where most people end up living day to day.

Theory debates: post a theory as a blue truth, attach real quotes from the games as evidence, and argue it on two sides, with love it can be seen and without love it cannot. every theory gets a credibility score from the truths backing it.

Mystery boards: someone sets a puzzle with graduated clues, everyone else races to solve it, the winning answer pins to the top and the best solvers land on a leaderboard.

Fan art galleries: upload your work with tags, bundle related pieces into named collections, with full comments and a proper lightbox.

Fanfiction: full multi chapter stories in a real rich text editor, with character tagging across all three series and follows so you get pinged on new chapters.

Ships and OCs: declare your pairings and vote them up or down, watch the unpopular ones earn a crackship badge, and give your original characters their own pages.

Reading journals: live blog your first read through of a Ryukishi work while everyone reacts underneath without spoiling you.

Chat rooms and DMs: real time chat with emoji reactions, pins, replies, a full set of mod tools, and per room nicknames.

Voice chat: drop into a call straight from the message box, shown as a slim bar so you can talk and type at once, with mute controls for your own ears and for mods.

Watch parties: watch something together as a whole room. either a shared virtual browser powered by Hyperbeam that everyone takes turns driving, or, new in v6, your own screen shared with its sound, voice included.

Multiplayer games: chess, checkers, othello, and a real time minesweeper duel where you play as an Umineko witch. the best player at each one wears a title next to their name.

Secret hunts: tiny hidden pieces tucked around the site that you collect to unlock glowing roles and hidden themes. the current one has Maria hiding twelve letters across the whole site.

Profiles and themes: avatars, banners, follows, blocks, site wide search, live notifications, and fourteen character themes with custom fonts and floating particles.

So this was actually the first visual novel I've played that had ASMR elements in it. As someone who already enjoys both ASMR and Rica herself, it was a very pleasant experience having a story as well. All the art, music, and voice acting is great! Would recommend! #りかも～ど
