“Taking up more than a quarter of the city’s land, streets are San Francisco’s largest asset — and our greatest opportunity to revitalize the city.”
Absolutely masterpiece by @LukeSpray ❤️
San Francisco—and Mayor-Elect Lurie—has an opportunity to transform our streets and city.
People love Car-Free JFK Promenade.
It’s time for another car-free space that people love — Great Highway Park — to be made permanent.

Today — in partnership with @LondonBreed , westside Supervisors @JoelEngardio and Myrna Melgar, and Supervisors @DeanPreston , @RafaelMandelman and @mattdorsey, we’re thrilled to announce that a permanent oceanfront park will be on the ballot this November!
Three years ago, Car-Free JFK opponents claimed making JFK permanently car-free would decrease access, accessibility, and equity.
Today, Car-Free JFK is the most accessible and equitable it’s ever been.
Car-free spaces are accessible and equitable. We should have more of them.
The family-friendly beer garden with food trucks along Car-Free JFK Promenade was full of people, music, and good vibes yesterday ❤️
Car-free streets are positive and equitable public spaces for all that build community and enhance cities. We should have more car-free streets 👏
After celebrating the JFK Promenade's 4th anniversary this past weekend, we're looking ahead to what's in store for it in 2024! Its new & upcoming features include:
Over three years ago, I started canvassing on Car-Free JFK asking people to send an email supporting a permanent Car-Free JFK.
About a year later, the Board of Supervisors voted (7-4) to make it permanent.
Today, Car-Free JFK celebrated its birthday.
Organizing gets the goods!
Happy 4th, JFK Promenade! 🎈
You taught us that if we want a more vibrant city, we must bring people crammed onto sidewalks into the streets.
You showed us that we waste too much space on redundant asphalt.
You proved that our city can act transformatively—if it chooses.
New installation going in on Car-Free JFK Promenade 👀👏
The installation will have educational content and imagery about climate change, sustainability, and the future, and should be ready by Earth Day (April 22nd).
I’m glad to see @RecParkSF continuing to activate this space!
Bad car crash at the start of Car-Free JFK Promenade. Thankfully, no one outside the car appears to have been injured, but this could have easily been another roadway fatality (or multiple).
The City should move the round concrete bollards to the other side of the crosswalk now.
Amazing and uplifting @SFBikeBus today!
Bike Bus gives children independence, brings them — and other people — joy, and helps more families switch trips from cars, which reduces car traffic, noise, air pollution and climate emissions while increasing public health and community!
TOMORROW (Friday): Bike Bus 🎉 Join a group of joyful children and families biking to school with @SFBikeBus!

This used to be a street for cut-through car traffic.
Now, it’s a safe and equitable community space and a street for people using sustainable transportation or recreating ❤️
Streets are for people, and now is the time for us to move our streets forward towards a better future.
The levels of joy on JFK promenade are always off the charts on a sunny day. Totally packed with people despite no parking in sight. We should do this on Valencia too
This street used to be used for cut-through car traffic.
Now it’s where children learn to walk, use scooters, and ride bikes, and where people of all ages and abilities walk, run, bike, and connect.
Streets are for children — and all people ❤️

This used to be a street for cut-through car traffic.
Now, it’s a place for people to connect, walk, and bike, and for art to be enjoyed.
Streets are for people. They are public space best used to bring people together.
You can transform your streets and cities if you want to.
