In the midst of an Ebola outbreak: we have no confirmed CDC Director, Surgeon General, or FDA Commissioner. Half of NIH's Institutes & Centers lack permanent leadership.
Meanwhile, RFK Jr. is leaving work at 4pm & spouting conspiracy theories. This is public health under Trump.

U.S. Sen. Tim Sheehy has proposed eliminating the U.S. Forest Service’s airworthiness inspections for aircraft that fight wildfires. The idea itself could benefit Sheehy personally.

This is really stupid, and it’s not getting enough attention.
The Trump administration is pulling a working $368 million ocean monitoring system out of the water, equipment taxpayers already bought, built, and sank into the deep ocean.
And they are doing it right when the oceans are behaving in ways that alarm the scientists who study them.
Record-breaking temperatures.
A system of Atlantic currents that may be lurching toward collapse.
The response?
Yank out the instruments and walk away.
That is not budgeting. That is smashing the gauges while the engine is on fire and calling it efficiency.
For what? The Trump administration dressed it up as a “nimbler approach” and “smart lifecycle management,” which is fancy nonsense for “we shut it off and hoped nobody would ask why.” There is no return-on-investment analysis. They cannot show taxpayers save a dime, because the gear is already paid for and the science it produces protects real money and real lives.
The kicker: the same people killing the monitors want to mine the deep sea for minerals. So they are destroying the only tools that could measure what that mining does. That is not an accident.
That is the point. You cannot see the damage if you break the instruments first.

The Trump administration's cancellation of more than $100 million in humanities grants to scholars, writers, research groups and other organizations was unconstitutional, and DOGE had no authority to end the funding, a federal judge in New York ruled on Thursday. https://t.co/33pHgdC52v
More than three million Virginians cast their ballots in Virginia’s redistricting referendum, and the majority of Virginia voters voted to push back against a President who said he is ‘entitled’ to more Republican seats in Congress with a temporary and responsive referendum. They made their voices heard.
I am disappointed by the Supreme Court of Virginia’s ruling, but my focus as Governor will be on ensuring that all voters have the information necessary to make their voices heard this November in the midterm elections because in those elections we — the voters — will have the final say.
The recent Supreme Court decision in Louisiana v. Callais effectively killed the last remaining provision of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
And it represents the life's work of Chief Justice John Roberts.
Here's how Roberts has been steadily working for more than 40 years to destroy the country's most important civil rights law:
@WhiteHouse You spread untruths, and you abuse the dignity of the White House by trying to prompt partisan violence and blaming the party that is not in power. This isn't responsible or democratic governing. It's toxic and dangerous.
Today’s Supreme Court ruling further weakens a law born out of sacrifice, struggle, and the determination of people who risked everything for the right to vote.
Voting rights remain essential to justice, representation, and the dignity of citizenship. This decision certainly weakens key protections and sets up a path that could make fair representation even more difficult.
This is a critical election year, and it is also a critical moment to call for new voting rights legislation.
Through Kingian Nonviolence, we can organize, strategize, and coordinate our efforts to combat voter suppression and create a pathway to restore and protect representation.

If we are serious about creating the Beloved Community, we must be serious about protecting and using the right to vote.

The Supreme Court is taking us back to the Jim Crow era.
The court’s six-to-three Republican-appointed majority issued a staggering ruling on Wednesday, essentially killing the remaining protections of the Voting Rights Act. https://t.co/0c8Lj8vnh0
Trump has changed almost every aspect of the food stamp program, including changes to who is eligible, how much they receive, and what the stamps can be used for, resulting in the program helping 3 million fewer people.

Just finished Nicholas Enrich's new book, "Into the Wood Chipper," about Doge's destruction of USAID. It's a window into an asylum in which clueless zealots around Elon Musk were killing aid recipients worldwide without having a clue what they were even doing.
I wrote about DOJ’s indictment of the Southern Poverty Law Center, the iconic civil rights group that broke the Ku Klux Klan. DOJ would have you believe SPLC engaged in material support of domestic terrorism. Nothing could be further from the truth. Learn more here: https://t.co/ro1wABjT28
What I love most about humans is that we’ve always had a compulsive need to create, to make art. We can’t help it. It’s who we are. And we will never, ever stop.
