I also want to announce that we have an amazing editorial board who will be supporting us. @LucyCWelsh and I are grateful to them for joining us and excited to go on this journey with this over the next three years...
I'm delighted to announce that @LucyCWelsh and I have taken over as editors of Common Law World Review. The journal is a forum for legal developments across the common law world. If anyone has any questions about the journal or ideas for papers, please do get in touch!
Experiences of Criminal Justice is out TODAY! I’m so excited for this book. It looks at how austerity has impacted criminal justice. It talks to lawyers, police, suspects and family members for a rounded view. And it focuses on Wales for the first time. https://t.co/pzvst0sC1I
Chuffed that @roxanna_law and my @CardiffLaw research on criminal justice in Wales was cited by the Shadow Justice Sec @RichardBurgon in the House of Commons today. An important debate on court closures and access to justice so glad we could contribute.

“Cuts to legal aid are pricing the poor out of justice and devastating the criminal defence profession. The crisis must be addressed” - @LawSocPresident

The criminal justice system was on ‘the brink of collapse’ with ‘every part of the process floundering’. Means test set now so low that people earning between £12,475 and £22,325 might not receive legal aid, according to @TheLawSociety report out today https://t.co/xzOlAgZ2XF
If this came to being Wales would have the most liberal prisoner voting laws in Great Britain - Scotland plans to do similar, but only for people in custody for less than a year https://t.co/ET6ingGke5
Our new report on criminal justice in Wales provides first-hand accounts on the impact of court closures under #austerity. Solicitors, barristers, police officers and defendants all told us about the effect cuts are having on #accesstojustice.
Under current British law, it is nearly impossible to access material held by the police & prosecution after a trial; leaving people unable to appeal their wrongful convictions.

Three MPs have been in touch this morning after their constituents tweeted them to take part in YLAL/@APPGLegalAid #TakeYourMPToWork campaign! MPs need to go to the #LegalAidFrontline to see why early advice is vital.

@DavidGauke He says there's "already something approaching a presumption" against short prison terms in England/Wales & wants to go "further" than that. It will make only a "relatively marginal" difference to prison population, says @davidgauke; "primary purpose" is to help cut re-offending.
Justice secretary @DavidGauke says there'll be "firm proposals by the summer" (we're already in June) to abolish short prison terms in England/Wales. He says there's a "strong case" to scrap sentences of under 6 months for most offences
Very excited that the paper @LucyCWelsh and me wrote on criminal lawyers and alienation has been published. We look at legal aid in the context of neoliberalism and austerity, and how solicitors and defendants in the criminal justice system are affected.

In case you missed it, I was doing some sort of BBC Wales take-over yesterday. I was talking about the impact of court closures in excellent pieces made by BBC Wales News on TV, radio and online. I'll link them all here as they're a good starter on how justice cuts impact Wales.
Court closures in Wales are harming our access to justice. I'm quoted in this @BBCWalesNews article on how we've lost nearly two thirds of our magistrates' courts under austerity.
I welcome the sensible move by @DavidGauke to bring probation back into a public service. @TheHowardLeague recommends national strategy with local delivery linked to other services https://t.co/ZosDOYKcNP
