The @cardiffmet ‘Archer’ has long been a reference to the sportsmen and women that compete and represent the University in our multitude of competitions. It has been a rallying cry in huddles, terraces and in pitch side songs sung loudly on a Wednesday afternoon across the Cyncoed Campus.
The affinity with the Archer finds it origins in the heroic efforts of the Welsh Bowmen from the 14th Century. So prolific was their skill, Shakespeare himself wrote about them, immortalising their bravery at the Battle of Agincourt💪
The Archer, therefore, is ingrained in Welsh history and identity. It is an emblem of our proud nation, toiling against great adversity and ultimately being victorious🏴
So, what then is a modern Archer? When we talk about Archers at Cardiff Met, we are talking about individuals with great courage, skill and hwyl. Whilst it has been borne out of Welsh history, any member of our Cardiff Met community can be ‘an Archer’. It transcends race, gender and religion representing the very best in our young people and our staff teams🏹
