Our findings suggest a disruption of the PD-L1/PD-1 axis in lymphocytic acute myocarditis,
representing a potential target for future therapies.

Congratulations, Dr. Ricky Baylis, on receiving the 2026 Hellman Family Clinical-Translational Research Development Award! His project will leverage the #UCSFCardiology Myocarditis Center to advance our understanding of the immunobiology of human myocarditis. @ScientistBaylis
I had the opportunity to pay tribute to Sallan & Lipshultz’s pioneering contributions in this @CircAHA article reflecting on the evolution of cardio-oncology.

Grateful to revisit that history with one of its pioneers.
Some conversations are a reminder of where a field came from: What a pleasure to start the morning catching up with Stephen Sallan, a legend in pediatric oncology and one of the pioneers whose work helped lay the foundations of what we now call cardio-oncology! A little history.
Stephen Sallan and the late Steve Lipshultz helped define anthracycline cardiotoxicity in children, long before “cardio-oncology” had a name. Steve recently passed away, and this morning we reminisced about him and those early days.
Talk about a true giant. Steve Lipshultz was a pioneer in the field of #CardioOnc & an outstanding mentor & friend. RIP. @ICOSociety@ESCardioOnco@DrJESalem

We’re leading a $9M effort to crack one of myocarditis’ biggest mysteries: Why immune cells attack the heart. The long-term goal is "turning off the T cells attacking the heart while leaving the rest of the immune system intact," Dr. Josiah Gerdts says. https://t.co/8gs67UVC72
What a difference a year makes! I put @baik_alan in charge of the @UCSF pericaritis center 1 year ago. He has killed it! Building clinical program, launching trials, preclinical models! Bedside to bench & back 2 bedside the vision for #CardioImmunology at @UCSFCardiology!
If there’s one lesson from #ZEUS, it’s this: CVD is not one disease, and inflammation is not one pathway. We won’t succeed by broadly suppressing the immune system. Like oncology, we need to understand the specific biology driving specific diseases...and treat accordingly.
Congratulations to the investigators and patients who made the #ZEUS trial possible. Large cardiovascular outcome trials are enormously challenging, and well-executed negative trials are just as important as positive ones. They move the field forward.
