Meet Karabelo Motuba, a livestock farmer from the Vaal who started her farming business in March 2023 with just 12 piglets.
Months later, those piglets multiplied into 62. Today, she is building a business around pig farming and pork production — proving that small beginnings can grow into sustainable enterprises. 🇿🇦🐖📈

#CareerPathways in the #Healthcare and #MentalHealth sector. Dr Samke J. Ngcobo’s leadership journey is one shaped not only by medicine, but by courage, vulnerability, and purpose.
A medical doctor, mental health advocate, and founder of Vocal Mentality, her career reflects a powerful commitment to changing how society understands mental illness. After experiencing a very public bipolar episode and psychiatric admission, she made the deliberate decision to share her lived experience openly — transforming personal adversity into a platform for advocacy, education, and healing.
Today, Dr Ngcobo is recognised as a leading voice in mental health awareness, working to dismantle stigma and expand access to mental health information across communities.
This is a story about the long game of leadership where resilience and service redefine what it means to thrive.

#CareerPathways in the #Education and #WorkforceDevelopment sector. South Africa’s youth unemployment crisis is not only an employment problem. It is a career development problem.
Every year, millions of young people move through the education system without the guidance, exposure, or tools needed to align their strengths with real opportunities in the economy.
CareerKit, founded by Isaac Mongali in Durban in 2021, was built to confront that gap through career discovery tools, hands-on profession simulations, and community facilitator programmes. CareerKit is helping learners move from self-awareness to employability, while creating new pathways into work for young facilitators across township and rural communities.
The organisation has already reached 15,000+ learners across more than 100 schools, aligning career guidance with labour-market demand and national skills priorities.
This feature examines how CareerKit is building the missing link between education and employment.

#2026BudgetSpeech signals an important turning point in South Africa’s fiscal trajectory. With public debt stabilising for the first time in 17 years, the deficit narrowing, and renewed #investor confidence, government has laid a foundation for #macroeconomic#stability and infrastructure-led growth. Stability alone will not resolve South Africa’s structural #unemployment crisis.
While projected economic growth improves to 1.6% in 2026 and trends upward over the medium term, this pace remains insufficient to absorb the scale of #youth #unemployment and #labour #market #exclusion currently facing the country.
The Budget acknowledges the urgent need to reform the national skills ecosystem, including improving the effectiveness of the skills development levy system and strengthening workplace-based and dual training pathways.
The Budget’s commitment to #reorganising skills acquisition, improving #artisanal training, and strengthening #sector-aligned development signals a shift from theoretical training toward demand-responsive workforce preparation.
With more than R1 trillion allocated to public infrastructure over the medium term, including investments in #transport, #logistics, #energy, #water, #digital infrastructure and #PPP expansion, new sector demand is emerging.
These investments have the potential to stimulate #job #creation across #engineering, #construction, #manufacturing, #energy #transition, #logistics and #data infrastructure. To convert infrastructure investment into inclusive employment outcomes, sector-aligned #skills #pathways must be visible, accessible, and coordinated. Without alignment, growth will remain disconnected from labour absorption.
Reducing #unemployment and addressing #skills #mismatches requires shared #leadership across government, business, education institutions, and civil society.
Career Indaba® remains committed to convening structured dialogue and enabling measurable opportunity progression in support of South Africa’s employment and economic reform agenda.

South Africa’s labour market is at a critical crossroads. The country cannot grow sustainably while millions remain locked out of work, and we cannot solve unemployment without fixing the skills-to-demand gap and accelerate real pathways.
In his response to SONA 2026 questions, today President @CyrilRamaphosa reinforced the urgency of tackling unemployment and strengthening demand-led skills that match what the economy needs (including critical technical and professional skills), through coordinated action across government, business, education, and society.
At the same time, the latest labour force data released by Statistics South Africa confirms that unemployment remains among the highest in the world, with more than 31% of the labour force still unemployed — disproportionately affecting young people and those attempting to transition from learning into work.
These trends underscore a shared national imperative that, we must move beyond dialogue to measurable action on skills, jobs and inclusive labour market participation.
Since 2025, Career Indaba® has been coordinating a structured national response to this priority. The Career Indaba® Expo & Bootcamp (15–16 May 2026) serves as South Africa’s National Employment & Skills Network, convening employers, education institutions, policymakers, organised labour, learners and job seekers within a coordinated environment focused on practical workforce progression.
Through this national gathering, we aim to strengthen school-to-work transitions, reduce labour market fragmentation and expand equitable access to sector-aligned skills pathways, employment opportunities, learnership programmes, bursary funding and structured training routes.
The time to make a shift from commitment to taking action is now. If your organisation is committed to transforming policy intent into measurable impact, this is the moment to align with the journey of building a more inclusive and economically resilient South Africa.

#CareerPathways in the #Fintech and #Mobility sector.
Jamie Wyngaard’s career reflects a modern African innovation journey moving between entrepreneurship, design thinking, fintech, and infrastructure-building, while keeping people at the centre of every solution.
As Co-Founder and CXO of Loop, his work sits at the intersection of mobility and money, building cashless payment systems and inclusive mobility infrastructure designed for real-world African conditions, not ideal ones.
This feature explores what it means to build technology for emerging markets where innovation is not defined by novelty, but by access, dignity, and practical problem-solving at scale.

Osvaldo Museta’s career has not followed a straight line. It has moved through detours, reinventions, and deliberate pivots from a Zimbabwean childhood shaped by constraint and longing, to global digital consulting and automation systems work.
Now an Automation Systems Specialist at Titan Network, his journey reflects the modern labour market: self-directed learning, cross-border collaboration, remote work, and the ability to translate diverse skills into systems thinking.
This feature explores imposter syndrome, burnout, unemployment, and professional reinvention, and what it means to move from searching for belonging to building impact across industries.
