Kampala is Uganda’s economic heartbeat. A significant share of the country’s educated workforce lives and works here, and the Kampala–Wakiso metropolitan area generates the majority of Uganda’s economic activity. The Central Business District alone is one of the country’s most productive commercial zones.
Cities do not become global destinations by chance they position and market themselves consistently. It is time we intentionally market Kampala in the hearts of every Ugandan and every international visitor.
One idea worth pursuing is an annual Kampala Week: a city-wide celebration bringing together culture, tourism, sports, business, entertainment, shopping, nightlife, food festivals, marathons, football, music, and the creative arts. Such an event would attract visitors from across Uganda and neighboring countries while increasing spending in hotels, restaurants, transport, retail, and other local businesses.
We should also actively promote Kampala in key tourism and investment markets such as the United States, South Africa, Europe, and across Africa. Kampala has many strengths to showcase: quality hospitals, leading schools and universities, vibrant nightlife, rich cultural heritage, modern shopping centres, historical landmarks, and welcoming people. These assets can position the city as both a tourism and business destination.
This vision can only be achieved through collaboration. We need to engage Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), the Ministry of Tourism, the private sector, and other city leaders to build a long-term strategy for promoting Kampala.
As a first step, we have organized the Kampala Tourism Walk, an initiative that will be covered by multiple media houses. We look forward to engaging KCCA (@KCCAUG ) and other stakeholders to make this an annual flagship event.
The inaugural 10-kilometre Kampala Tourism Walk will take participants through some of the city’s unique attractions, beginning at the Hindu Temple and concluding at the Lubiri. The walk aims to encourage Ugandans and visitors alike to rediscover Kampala, appreciate its history and culture, and experience the city in a new way.
As part of this initiative, we would be honoured to meet with the Lord Mayor of Kampala Eng Balimwezo Ronald Nsubuga (@RonaldBalimwezo), officials from Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), and other city leaders to discuss how we can work together to position Kampala as a must-visit destination in Africa. We believe that through collaboration between the public and private sectors, we can build a stronger city brand, increase visitor numbers, create more opportunities for local businesses, and showcase Kampala as one of the continent’s most vibrant and welcoming cities.
A thriving Kampala means a stronger Uganda. By investing in the city’s brand today, we create more opportunities for tourism, business, employment, and national pride tomorrow.

Where determination met the finish line, compassion was already waiting🏃🏽♀️🏃🏽♂️
At the Fort Portal City Marathon, “A Run in Paradise,” Uganda Red Cross volunteers stood ready every step of the way, providing first aid, hydration, recovery support, and a comforting hand to runners who needed it most.
As athletes pushed their limits through the scenic trails of Fort Portal, our volunteers ensured that every stride was met with care, every challenge with support, and every finish with renewed strength.
The marathon became more than a test of endurance; it was a celebration of resilience, community, and humanity in action.
