@Empty_America I understand the legal historicity! But shooting (or escalating a fight) seems to have been socially common in America at various points (familial feuds in South, which align with stories about gaelic violence in Highlands).
Etc etc effeminacy is in the eye of the beholder
This could be unfair but I think it's fun that VB Knives has a specific level of violence that's acceptable. If the old guy had caught some 9mm in the chest he'd be bemoaning this as a change from historical norms.

The idea that you can talk shit with no possible physical consequence has been the "law" for a long time.
But few really believed it or acted that way, it wasn't the social norm, there was some honor culture left.
Actually internalizing this expectation is very new.
@i2cjak One of my profs read a letter his family wrote to the IEEE explaining pronunciation. Despite adopting this correct pronunciation I still pronounce Euler like a Persian.
@romanhelmetguy You need to go further back, pentathlon events were all held to be useful for military service, decathlon was supposed to be the same. Something like the Tactical Games would be spiritually closer.
@Bratt_world@AmazingZoltan Isn't this just pointing to the decay of grave markers?
"For the most part, the cemeteries that the Commission documented are aban- doned, disused, and vulnerable to accidental disturbance."
Makes sense given they probably used wooden markers.
@selentelechia I have no personal experience with these. But my understanding is the Japanese (called earthquake poles I think?) use them on top of bookshelves. "Iris Ohyama KTB-40R Furniture Fall Prevention Elastic Rod, Medium, White"
@selentelechia They make some mandolin/food choppers & rotary graters that really help. Then you can break up initial food prep (chop veg, grate cheese, etc...) chuck it in the freezer or fridge & continue next day. 15L stock pot also helps. Depends on your feelings on meal prep tho I guess.
I have been hit on, specifically asked for my number while working customer facing jobs & by women working customer facing jobs. People love to extend their personal neuroses into monolithic etiquette systems.
