End the ideologically driven genocide of our mentally ill and addicted brothers and sisters. Shelter now, treatment now, recovery now. Opinions are mine.
The Westside doesn’t want a candidate who permits dangerous encampments near schools & parks, who wrote ULA (the huge apartment tax), favors defunding the police, & who will co-govern with DSA. Her name is Faizah Malik.
We must re-elect @TraciParkforLA.
We’re not going back!
Prop 36 was passed by almost 70% of CA voters.
Prop 36 gave prosecutors more authority to charge certain drug (fentanyl) and theft related crimes as felonies and allowed judges to mandate much needed treatment for some offenders.
DA’s throughout the State have filed approximately 1,700 to 2,600 Prop 36 cases per month since the law went into effect.
Current funding for Prop 36 so far:
Gov Newsom & State - $0 (Newsom says it’s up to the cities and counties)
LA County - $0
LA City - $0
You can’t say as an elected official that you prioritize public safety if you are unwilling to fund programs that promote public safety.
LA City Council just passed a budget that throws hundreds of millions down the black hole of homelessness while cutting funding to LAPD. @TraciParkforLA is absolutely marvelous here. One of the last hopes for LA's future.
What also isn’t accounted for is the DEATH RATE. LA’s homeless population loses an average of six human beings per day. The data is incomplete, but death, largely from overdose, accounts for as little as ~40% of the decrease and as much as ~70%. Combine this with the shoddy LAHSA accounting and there is NOTHING to celebrate.
LAHSA’s recently published numbers omit homeless individuals in parks and along highways as well as homeless youth. Bass then uses this data to proclaim success. Why accept and support such dishonesty? Accountability is critical to performance in public service. We should expect more.
I *think* his position is shelter without conditions. With the reasoning being no one should sleep on the street and shelter can be scaled quickly enough to meet the current crisis level of need. And the condition for housing is accepting treatment. With the reasoning being that those in recovery should not live with neighbors who are actively using. Is this something you would oppose?
@MayorOfLA Bringing people inside without addressing untreated mental illness and/or addiction will condemn them back to the streets sooner or later. Why do you ignore this? Stand up to the powerful people and orgs that use civil liberties to trap people in addiction and mental illness.
This is performance from @LindseyPHorvath. She and @MayorOfLA knew ALL OF THIS for years. It’s what they’ve supported for years. Bass even appointed herself chair of LAHSA on day one of her term! They’ll “fix” one corrupt bureaucracy with another. We need federal oversight.
I'm introducing a motion to create a consolidated County dept to end this nightmare.
It's another reminder of what we already know: the current system is broken.
No more wasted resources.
No more contracts for services that don't deliver.
We need accountability + results NOW.
More from Sacramento:
Yesterday there was a hearing to discuss properly funding Prop 36, which was passed by over 70% of the CA electorate.
Here was part of Scott Wiener’s response: “I have a strong objection to the state providing more operational support to local law enforcement.”
For years now, many in Sacramento have been against public safety. They are also against anyone who disagrees with them. All of us need to make sure Prop 36 is fully implemented because we can’t trust Sacramento to do so.
We all have a right to public safety Scott. That includes properly funding law enforcement in order to stop smash n grab burglaries, organized retail theft, fentanyl poisoning and drug dealers endangering our neighborhoods.
Governor Hochul is right to advance legislation that would empower the Mayor to relocate those with serious mental illness from the subways and streets of New York. She must stand firm in the face of misguided opposition.
There is nothing remotely compassionate and progressive about allowing those with serious mental illness to languish and die on the streets and subways of New York. Nothing.
My brother left his home from with his wife and kids because he could not use drugs there the city gave him a free place up under the Housing First program. He checked out that program the same way this person just did this morning. This is the outcome. I have documented so many of these housing first without treatment or without checking on someone with a drug addiction. This is always the outcome.
“Former fire chiefs say pre-deployment could have mitigated the toll in the Palisades”
It’s becoming more and more clear that the fires could have been prevented or contained quicker and countless homes and lives could have been saved. Outrageous.
Why aren’t the Mayor and Fire Chief giving us answers? We need answers and accountability from the Mayor and the Fire Chief - now.
Remember last August when Karen Bass vowed to respond urgently to the crime, violence , and open air drug market that is MacArthur Park?
Let’s check in on that 6 months of progress…
Bonta now says “We addressed every issue that was important to Californians.”
Hmm 🧐
-Fentanyl poisoning
-Border security
-Politcal fraud & corruption
-Home Burglary gang crews
-Smash n Grab Burglaries
-Homeless Encampments
-DA’s not doing their jobs
-Hate crimes
-Protecting children from harm
-Sex and Human Trafficking
The CA Atty General’s job includes: “safeguarding Californians from harm and promoting community safety” by “enforcing and applying all of our laws fairly and impartially.” It isn’t just promoting what’s “important” to you and your political followers. It’s promoting safety for ALL Californians - Democrats, Republicans and all in between.
If focusing your entire office on attacking President Trump is what’s important to you, I suggest you run for President in 4 years. Let someone else do the actual job of making sure ALL Californians are safe.
