Joey McGuire says Texas Tech is offering to play Texas on Sept. 5 this season. Regarding their season openers, McGuire says Tech would buy out ACU, Texas has the money to buy out Texas State game.
I am aware that Tech faithful fans like to identify as a rebellious lot, and as such, I know there are those among us who will want to push back on today’s “No Tortillas,” edict.
This program is about so much more than the tossing of tortillas in the air. It is about winning the Big XII, and it is about building a program of lasting, national significance.
Too many have sacrificed and invested too much time, money, and sweat to be distracted by a tortilla debate.
This is not about a lack of leadership, or the bending of a knee. We do not hold the moral high ground on this matter. How do we defend, and continue to support fans throwing tortillas, or anything else, at our opponents, or on the field?
No other program in the country would condone this, and we haven’t condoned it in other sports, either, outside of the Jones.
Bottoms line is, I want to win! At this point, tortillas don’t make that easier.
Our heritage is defined by the Red and Black, not by a flour Tortilla. Wreck ‘Em
A modernized Double T and a new brand that resonates with our history and will define Texas Tech Athletics for future generations.

The TV Networks (specifically Fox and ABC) are refusing to run this ad for @SavingCollSprts today during the games.
No good reason given as to why - just ignoring us or telling us to contact their attorneys. The General Council for one major network told me it was a “business decision”. This was AFTER we’d sent them a large wire to pay for the ads!
Why would the networks want to silence a legitimate debate around an issue that affects hundreds of thousands of kids and is existentially threatening to women’s sports and Olympic sports? What is the “business reason” that overrides the benefit and enjoyment that college sports provide to tens of millions of Americans?
What are they hiding??
If there was ever a question that money, control, and greed are being prioritized over student athletes, fans, and communities…Here you go!!
We all knew that the current situation in college sports seemed very slimy and was driven by people who couldn’t care less about the common good…. But we had no idea how bad it truly is!!
It’s become obvious…We have to drain the swamp that College Sports have become!!
This fight isn’t about me, and it certainly isn’t about TV ads - it’s much bigger. It’s about doing what is right and necessary to save a great American institution. I promise that I won’t stop fighting until we are successful in solving this problem, and I know I can count on many of you to join me!
