It is beyond time to have a sensible, structured national conversation about migration - a 12 month programme.
I’m so bored with endless superficial soundbites & dishonesty from politicians. But who has built structures to adequately empower quality conversation? It’s time.
"This is about the poisoning of our civic and political life..."
As Keir Starmer tells police to 'stay on high alert,' historian Professor David Olusoga tells @BenKentish how the current state of Britain is 'reminding people of the 1970s and 1980s'.
@RadcliffeMad1 @LBC@mrjamesob Yes - I'm hoping we can work towards a Ref2. Starmer's had to play a very cautious game and nothing will happen quickly, but I think he knows closer ties with the EU will be essential for the economic growth he keeps saying is a priority.
@RadcliffeMad1 @LBC@mrjamesob Also worth saying that it was far easier to work in cooperation with nations like France under the Dublin agreement, which was scrapped after Brexit.
@RadcliffeMad1 @LBC@mrjamesob Immigration has been far higher since we left the EU than it was when we were still in. As EU members we could already impose quite strict rules on who was allowed to stay in the country. No UK govt enforced these, as they saw how important foreign workers were to the economy.
@RadcliffeMad1 @LBC@mrjamesob 7. By voting to leave the EU, the customs union and the single market we've weakened our economy and our influence in the world. We've isolated ourselves for what benefit? Terrible idea and impossible now to regain the privileged position we had.
@RadcliffeMad1 @LBC@mrjamesob 6. Global Player: The EU is a major economic and political power. As a member, the UK had a greater say in international affairs and negotiations.
This is right up there with ‘palindrome’ not being a palindrome, ‘lisp’ being unsympathetic to those who have one, ‘abbreviation’ being anything but, and ‘dyslexia’ being tricky to spell.
Any others?
Climate change is deeply misunderstood. The news media is on a mission to scare us into action. In doing so, they lie and misrepresent the facts.
A new book shares a treasure trove of data that'll blow your mind.
10 lessons from "Not the End of the World" by Hannah Ritchie:
The better the walk to school. The more you walk to school.
One simple way to encourage more walking🚶♂️ AND less use of cars🚗 for short journeys, is to make our streets more welcoming🌞
Let’s fill ALL our streets with trees 🌳🌳🌳
