@haeckels_@bridgemonty Please (!)
Always happy to spread the word of another trying to do good work against the tide of mediocrity > let’s push things forward.
@chrisromerlee @tunnocksuk @brutus_beton A confluence of architecture’s demands, the need for warmth in a cold studio space, and admittedly one too many American legal dramas (!)
Always welcome Chris.
@stuartfinnie@WSofArchi Was a real honour to benefit from years of SC groundwork and contacts - it’s rare for a trip to be so immersive and so transformative.

A1 textual documentation of @WSofArchi collegiate tour across GER, AUS and SWI during 18.01.20 - 23.01.20.
With thanks to Dr Steve Coombs for the invitation.
@Groupwork_arch@adamdgreenfield I suppose I am surprised at how on arrival I was ready to dismiss this-perhaps a lack of overt character or reference play or.. but maybe that is the point.
It is a beautiful(ly simple) way to build well, & a beautifully flexible host for a variety of uses.
@Groupwork_arch@adamdgreenfield That’s it.
Thinking around future use and un-use was also sound; plan *and section* allows for stairs to be added and at the time we visited it housed a gallery, an office, a cafe, residential units.
@Groupwork_arch@adamdgreenfield It’s apparent simplicity gets more interesting; internal LB element is circa 400mm then broken (though no cavity) with circa 300mm ‘insulative’ outer layer - slight change in internal webbing and blocks on shifted courses but still bonded as one. Self ‘cooked’ lime to externals.
@Groupwork_arch Important part of rationale was often circa 1/3 of project spent on mech services - and what would happen if that 1/3 was reinvested back the architecture. All achieved for circa €1500/sqm.
@Groupwork_arch Separately - but always relatedly - have just returned from GER, SWI and AUS; the latter involved a tour of House 2226 by Baumschlager Eberle.
Compelling argument made for sheer mass (and of course gutsy LB walls) whereby mass (and generous FCL heights) enables heating by users.
@PhinHarper @ArchFoundation Suggest reading ‘Chelsea Vs Pope’ re houseboats and other non fixed items, conclusively defined as chattel, plus Elitestone Limited v Morris re attachment to site etc.
Both interesting cases re chattel.
@jalinsomaiya as the decade draws in and in homage to our Dartmouth Row odyssey - and your soundtrack-to - here we are in Ghent listening to Love Theme from Spartacus by Yusef Lateef.
Admittedly Hotline Bling preceded it but bon 2020; we move forward.
@Piers_Taylor@manonmollard @invisiblstudio @charlesjholland Piers will know my thoughts here and the reason why it is taken seriously @WSofArchi - its often worst in this shortened form (to ‘craft’ rather than ‘craftsmanship’)
Shabby thoughts here https://t.co/oxarLXhxzf but do it justice Piers - it really needs unpicking.
