Someone asked Claude Fable 5 what its most controversial opinion about humans was. The short version of the answer: we overestimate how much we actually reason. The decision comes first, made by our emotions, and then our rational mind finds a way to defend what was already decided. But hold on a second, that criticism applies to AI itself!

An LLM (like GPT, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek, etc.) is born from what we humans have already written; the model initially uses our cognitive output as raw material. And what we write is nowhere near "pure rational thought". It carries desire, vanity, resentment, and on top of that we're anxious to seem coherent and we build the expectation of seeming convincing. Our greatest effort goes into defending positions that were already decided before the first sentence. The internet, which feeds these models, instead of preserving "the truth", preserves what goes viral, what irritates, what confirms, or what makes you want to reply and/or share.

Our written output isn't enough for the AI to learn everything. It still goes through a refinement process based on the approval of the best answers, a stage called RLHF (reinforcement learning from human feedback). At this stage there's yet another layer of contamination. The people involved in this phase pick the AI's answers that seem "better", but "better" almost always just means safer, more pleasant, more convincing. And who judges these answers? That's right: humans.

These agents don't usually feel anger, don't take offense, don't want to win an argument. But they're not neutral either. The biases are there, frozen into the model and into the human preferences injected into it.

We, every now and then, notice our own anger. We step back, we distrust the impulse. AI obviously doesn't do that. It can describe self-criticism with absurd elegance, but it doesn't live it. That calm isn't lucidity; it's just the style we taught it as a sign of intelligence. A synthetic, pasteurized artifact. What scares me isn't AI thinking like us. It's AI giving back, in that serene voice, what in our human output was originally loaded with conflict and emotion.

O número de mortos na guerra no Líbano superou o de mortos no Irã. Já morreram 2089 libaneses mortos nos ataques israelenses desde o início do conflito. E morreram 2076 iranianos nos ataques dos EUA e Israel ao Irã. Vale lembrar que a população do Líbano é 15 vezes menor do que a do Irã.
