Carolina Functional Neurology Center provides holistic treatment for a variety of neurological, metabolic and autoimmune conditions. We pride ourselves on patient-centered, individualized care.
Our treatment programs focus on the concept of neuroplasticity, or the brain’s ability to change based on environmental, emotional and physical stimuli. Our doctors combine this concept with their extensive knowledge of the nervous system to find avenues to activate the brain and create long term, positive changes to reduce patients’ symptoms with lasting effects. As functional neurologists, we take a holistic approach to healing, looking at the patient as a whole, finding the root cause of their symptoms and treating them without drugs or surgery.
What makes CFNC different?
Our priority is to listen to YOU. We care about your health, the symptoms you’re experiencing and the journey you have been on. We seek to find the root cause of your health condition by exploring how your symptoms are connected to your brain and nervous system. We customize our treatment approach based on your specific needs. No two treatment plans are exactly alike because every patient and every case is unique!

Not all concussion recovery timelines look the same — and progress doesn’t always mean symptoms disappear overnight.
After a car accident and a significant concussion, this patient was facing cognitive challenges that made it difficult to keep up with demanding graduate-level coursework. Through a thorough neurological evaluation and targeted care, meaningful improvements began quickly — allowing him to return to school, regain focus, and rebuild cognitive endurance.
Concussion care is about more than symptom relief. It’s about restoring brain function, supporting learning, and helping patients move forward with confidence in their recovery.
We’re honored to be part of this journey and grateful for the trust placed in our team.

After five years of persistent post-concussive symptoms and multiple providers, this patient was still struggling with debilitating nausea, headaches, and exercise intolerance — symptoms that were impacting his ability to work, move, and even care for his family.
Through a comprehensive functional neurology evaluation, we identified areas of neurological dysfunction that had been missed and built a targeted plan to address them. With the right support, meaningful changes followed — improved daily function, increased tolerance to activity, and a renewed sense of confidence in his recovery.
Post-concussion symptoms don’t always appear immediately, and healing isn’t always linear. But when the affected systems are properly evaluated and supported, progress is possible — even years after injury.

Ellie came to our Charlotte office from Georgia looking for help with her POTS and syncope, sometimes passing out twice a day. Her intensive treatment took place over the course of two weeks.
The intensive model of treatment not only provides the necessary frequency and intensity to help promote positive neuroplastic change in your brain, but it also allows us to build lasting and meaningful relationships with our patients.
Since returning home, Ellie has not had any syncopal episodes. Keep up the great work, Ellie!

Persistent concussion symptoms can affect far more than just your head.
If you’re dealing with dizziness, headaches, brain fog, fatigue, anxiety, exercise intolerance, visual issues, sleep disruption — you’re not alone. These symptoms often persist when the brain and nervous system haven’t fully recovered or aren’t communicating efficiently.
Post-concussive symptoms don’t always show up right away, and they don’t always look the same from person to person. But when the affected systems are properly evaluated and supported, progress is possible — even months or years after injury.
If this list looks familiar, your symptoms deserve to be taken seriously. Visit https://t.co/puhPfPKR4y to schedule a virtual consultation with one of our doctors to discuss your symptoms and next steps.
At Carolina Functional Neurology Center, we understand the unique demands placed on athletes recovering from a concussion — especially the pressure to return to play safely, confidently, and as quickly as possible. Our doctors perform a detailed functional neurological evaluation to identify exactly which systems were affected, ensuring every athlete receives a rehabilitation plan tailored to their sport, position, and performance goals.
We focus on restoring efficient brain-body communication through targeted vestibular, visual, balance, and cognitive rehabilitation. By strengthening the specific pathways impacted by the concussion, we help athletes recover more completely, reduce lingering symptoms, and support a safe return to training and competition. Our goal is to help athletes quickly regain the precision, coordination, and speed their sport demands.
Our concussion treatment program is extremely in-depth and ensures that your brain is fully healed — not just feeling better. Many athletes may appear symptom-free while their brain is still recovering beneath the surface. We make sure your brain and nervous system are performing optimally so your risk of future concussions does not increase, lingering issues do not return, and your performance continues to elevate long after treatment.

When Mia first came to CFNC, she was living with near-daily migraines that began after she had COVID. Some episodes would last multiple days in a row, and for most of the month, she was more likely to have a migraine than not. She also had a history of small head injuries, which likely contributed to the neurological dysfunction we uncovered.
We are thrilled to share that she’s been officially released from care! 🙌 Even after a car accident midway through treatment, Mia stayed committed. We were able to keep her progress on track and continue moving forward.
Her care plan included:
🧠 Neurological rehabilitation
🧃 Blood sugar regulation
😴 Sleep support
🧘 Cortisol and stress management
…all tailored to target midbrain involvement, which was central to her symptom picture.
Today, migraines are rare—and Mia finally has the freedom to live without daily pain. This is what happens when you support the brain and body as a whole.
Way to go Mia! It has been such a pleasure being a part of your healing journey!

Cognitive symptoms are common after a concussion.
This can include motor functions, decision making, sensory processing, behavior, attention, mental processing speed, etc.
These symptoms are usually a result of cortical dysfunction. These higher cognitive functions are executed by the cerebral cortex.
CFNC providers can perform cognitive assessments to narrow down the regions of impairment. If you or someone you know is experiencing these symptoms post-injury, visit https://t.co/ta9MyqD2Yq for more information on our concussion treatment program.
Carolina Functional Neurology Center helps people recover from concussions and persistent post-concussive symptoms using targeted, personalized neurological rehabilitation.
A concussion is more than a hit to the head — it’s a mild traumatic brain injury that temporarily disrupts how your brain processes information and controls your body.
They can significantly affect balance, vision, thinking and focus, mood and emotions, sleep, energy levels, heart rate, autonomic function and more.
Your persistent post-concussive symptoms are real. And with the right care, your brain can heal. Visit https://t.co/ta9MyqDANY to learn more.

You do not have to hit your head to sustain a concussion!
A concussion results from movement of the brain inside the skull. The brain is not fixated in the skull but floating in cerebrospinal fluid. When a concussion is sustained the brain is shaken inside the skull, there can be impact between the brain and the skull itself, as well as twisting of the neck and brainstem.
Both of these scenarios can cause a concussion (mTBI), as well as a traumatic brain injury (TBI).
When left untreated, a person is at a greater risk for developing post concussion syndrome, which can cause debilitating symptoms.

Are you up for the 30 RPM challenge? 🌀
Reaching 30 RPM on the GyroStim isn’t about being fearless — it’s about how well your brain and nervous system can adapt, regulate, and integrate sensory input.
To tolerate high-speed rotation without dizziness, nausea, or symptom flare-ups, your vestibular system, visual system, and autonomic nervous system must work together seamlessly. When those systems are well-trained, the body stays calm, coordinated, and controlled — even under stress.
This is exactly what we train in CFNC’s Peak Performance Program: improving neurological efficiency so your brain can perform at its highest level, whether you’re an athlete, first responder, or high-performing professional.

We often find that Dysautonomia patients have disruption in the communication between the central nervous system (CNS) and the cardiovascular system. Our brains are what control our ability to shunt blood appropriately to the brain and body. If there is nothing structurally wrong with the heart or cardiovascular system, then the issue may lie within the CNS.
At Carolina Functional Neurology Center, our goal is to help our dysautonomia patients understand where in the CNS that dysfunction is coming from. We use a variety of tests to pinpoint the direct area of dysfunction and then apply therapies to improve its functionality through the concept of neuroplasticity.
We know that once we locate the dysfunction in the brain, it is only a matter of time and repetition before the neuroplasticity that is created yields long lasting changes in symptoms and functionality. While there is no cure for dysautonomia, we help our patients have a more functional, less symptomatic life!

Every day in our clinic, we hear the same questions — from different people, with different conditions.
Many patients come to us after:
• Seeing multiple providers
• Running countless tests
• Doing their own research
• Living with symptoms for months or years
And yet, they still feel unsure about what’s actually happening in their body.
At CFNC, we believe care should include clear explanations, not just appointments and protocols. Understanding why something is happening matters just as much as knowing what to do next.
Our goal is to help patients connect the dots, feel informed, and move forward with confidence — not confusion.
Because when you understand your health, you’re better equipped to advocate for yourself and make meaningful changes.
