Gatsby also not going in the pool shows that until now he has kept out of as much throuble, but taking that swim means all the trouble that built around him would soon drown him #ch8 #TGGSymbol

The wanting to drain the pool was a symbol for wanting to take away the past and start anew with the life coming in fall, but Gatsby, in his ways was not about to let that happen #ch8
