FACTS
-I discovered my first comet in 1983.
-I am known for finding 32 comets, that's more than anyone else.
-I am the Comet Queen.
-I also found more than 800 asteroids, 40 of which were approaching earth.
-When I was young, I was not interested in stargazing or astronomy.
My Personal/Professional Challenges
-I started as a seventh grade teacher but I felt unsatisfied about teaching.
-After my family moved out, I started looking for a job at the age of 51.
-I became a visiting scientist at the U.S Geological Survey in Arizona.
-I was born on June 24, 1929 in Gallup, New Mexico, United States.
-I studied in California State University, Chico.
-My husband is Eugene Shoemaker.
-I'm an American astronomer and is co-discover of Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9.
-I took up astronomy in 1980, at the age of 51.
