We are now all waiting for the Chauvin verdict. Pundits are acting as if justice hangs in the balance. It does not. Chauvin is clearly guilty but without systemic change, the conviction of one cop does not equal justice. #verdict@Mvmnt4BlkLives#JusticeForGeorgeFloyd
Upon learning a verdict had been reached in Derek Chauvin's trial, George Floyd's brother Philonise tells @sarasidnerCNN that, for the rest of the country, this will be a historic decision, but for his family, it's a personal one.
George Floyd’s murder pushed many people to think more deeply about how white supremacy functions in our society. Regardless of the verdict and what is said about Chauvin, we need people to stay engaged and motivated in the fight to end systems of oppression.
For the record, a guilty verdict for Chauvin wouldn’t be justice for George Floyd or a sign that the system in any way works. It’d just be one instance of meeting the most minimal benchmark for a society. (ie, you can’t publicly murder a citizen in broad daylight with impunity)
I wanna say this before the verdict comes out. It’s not “justice” if Chauvin is convicted. That’s a murderer facing just consequences. The real justice is addressing the system that allowed this to happen at all and we’re not close to that.
President Biden called George Floyd’s family to express his support, saying that he was praying for the “right verdict” in Derek Chauvin's trial. He defended his decision to weigh in on an unresolved trial, saying he waited until the jury was sequestered. https://t.co/ZWPFtNw69B
Regardless of the verdict, the fact that the entire country knows that cities will burn if Chauvin isn't convicted is a deep indictment of the state of the country.
think about what it means that Derek Chauvin was caught murdering a human being in high definition video and we're all sitting here nervous about what the verdict will be
The Chauvin verdict is irrelevant. Three cops watched and helped him murder Floyd. His entire department showed up to surround and defend his house. Not one broke away from the blue wall, because none of them believe Chauvin did anything wrong. The police must be dismantled.
Yeah, we know. The #43angrywhitedudes—pretending to be millions of moms—are all bent out of shape AGAIN, this time because #inclusion in the #SuperBowl. https://t.co/IlMDPqj5Sp
Why do so many white supremacists invariably look like they got the short end of the genetic dipstick? I mean, claiming to represent white supremacy while looking like a pile of two-day old lumpy mashed potatoes is hardly advancing your cause, repugnant as it is.
