Chris Carpenter

I use this account to communicate with my COMM445 class at Western Illinois University. We use the #wiucmc hashtag in this class.

Ever submit to an edited volume so long ago that when the publisher emails you about editing proofs, you initially assume it's SPAM?

[Chris Carpenter @CarpCOM445]

@NikkiCone16 :) I imagine the children certainly don't feel any less real #wiucmc

[Chris Carpenter @CarpCOM445]

@_VictoriaHill_1 @taylor_muhr @etdailly It would be interesting if the keyboard had that effect. Meanwhile Twitter is encouraging the use of text lingo w/ character limits #wiucmc

[Chris Carpenter @CarpCOM445]

@PattiVanDeGeju1 @zonta_shanna I don't know from personal experience, but I would bet receiving a break-up text would count as bad news :)

[Chris Carpenter @CarpCOM445]

@NikkiCone16 I have one game on my phone. It's a solitaire version of an ancient Chinese game called Go.

[Chris Carpenter @CarpCOM445]

@wiuscimeca That being said, I agree that it's worthwhile to try #wiucmc

[Chris Carpenter @CarpCOM445]

@wiuscimeca It's difficult to know one's own culture because it often forms the frame by which one views things. #wiucmc

[Chris Carpenter @CarpCOM445]

@acarrCMC445 @PattiVanDeGeju1 This issue goes back to COM345 and digital dualism. We tend to devalue online interactions regardless of how meaningful they are #wiucmc

[Chris Carpenter @CarpCOM445]

@ARan817 @NikkiCone16 Many types of support. Sometimes people just want to know that someone else is going through the same thing and made it through. #wiucmc

[Chris Carpenter @CarpCOM445]

@ARan817 @ChloeFlairty1 They can help fill a gap when people want to talk to people with similar experiences but live far apart from similar people #wiucmc

[Chris Carpenter @CarpCOM445]

@NikkiCone16 Is it a bad thing if it is? If you tell someone face-to-face you're graduating, is it really any different? #wiucmc

[Chris Carpenter @CarpCOM445]

@ARan817 @ar_asplund @NikkiCone16 Indeed, it is becoming extremely popular. Some are closed groups though to help with anonymity #wiucmc

[Chris Carpenter @CarpCOM445]

@NikkiCone16 @PattiVanDeGeju1 @taylor_muhr Unfollowing someone on FB maintains the connection but you don't see their content in your newsfeed.

[Chris Carpenter @CarpCOM445]

@PattiVanDeGeju1 @taylor_muhr Some research suggests that people are more likely to use FB's unfollow options rather than defriending. #wiucmc

[Chris Carpenter @CarpCOM445]

@JuliusShannon17 @ARan817 @ChloeFlairty1 Check out #goldentweets a program to help the elderly get into twitter from my colleague @CalebTCarrPhD at @ISUSOC

[Chris Carpenter @CarpCOM445]

@zonta_shanna Writing letters was the original asynchronous communication #wiucmc

[Chris Carpenter @CarpCOM445]

@PattiVanDeGeju1 @NikkiCone16 Yeah, I'm not a fan of those terms. But I haven't seen better ones in the CMC research. I suppose it's better than "stalking." #wiucmc

[Chris Carpenter @CarpCOM445]

@PattiVanDeGeju1 @zonta_shanna You can just tweet twice in a row. Usually people indicate the rest of the tweet is in a separate tweet by starting with 1/ and numbering

[Max Galka @galka_max]

What happens in 60 seconds on the Internet in 2017?
342,000 apps downloaded
Over $751,000 spent online

[Chris Carpenter @CarpCOM445]

@zonta_shanna I'm a bigger fan of Facebook than Twitter. I'm somewhat verbose sometimes and I don't like the 144 character limit.
