NEW: Florida cop arrested after allegedly stealing dead man’s identity to take his house

The scheme allegedly started in July 2022 when Officer Brian Sguros, 35, responded as backup to a welfare check and found homeowner Dennis West dead from natural causes.

Sguros is accused of lying to the medical examiner that he was a close friend and that West had no living heirs.

He allegedly paid the taxes and utilities in West’s name, forged West’s signature, and used a notary’s seal to get city permits.

Sguros faces multiple felonies including official misconduct and criminal use of a deceased person’s identity.
