“NOW THAT YOU’RE THE PASTOR’S WIFE…”

I still remember those words being spoken in a church meeting—just days after our honeymoon.

Before the sentence could finish, I stopped it cold.

“She’s the Pastor’s wife…not yours. Don’t put your ministry expectations on her.”

Awkward? Yep.
Necessary? Absolutely.

My wife didn’t fit the mold.

She didn’t want the spotlight.

She didn’t want a title.

She just wanted to love Jesus, teach kids, serve quietly—and be my wife.

And she has done that calling beautifully.

While I traveled as an evangelist, she raised our kids, taught public school for nearly 30 years, and dropped Gospel breadcrumbs everywhere she went.

Outside our town I’m “the Dare 2 Share guy.”
Inside it? I’m “Mrs. Stier’s husband.”

She’s a legend.

To every pastor’s wife:
You don’t have to fit anyone’s mold but God’s.

Love your husband. Follow his lead. Live your calling. Use your gifts.

Your identity isn’t in a title—it’s in being a daughter of the King.

“Who can find a wife of noble character? She is far more precious than jewels.” Proverbs 31:10

Forgiving someone doesn't mean we’ll feel instant joy or relief. But it does mean we're taking the right steps to walk toward healing.

So instead of making feeling good my goal, I'm learning to make healing my goal. And forgiveness is always healing in the right direction.

Search the letters of Paul and find that his primary boasts in the Lord for those early churches centered on their faith and love. Over and over some form of these words: “I’ve heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all the saints…”

If our attentiveness to Bible study, systematic theology and doctrine do not result in the strengthening of our faith and love, we’ve somehow managed to leave the Holy Spirit out of the Holy Spirit’s own words.

This is one reason why prayer is essential to Bible study. Frequently talking to God in our studies about our studies helps protect us from the rebuke Jesus gave in John 5. Those individuals diligently studied the scriptures but did not have the love of God in them.

If Bible study makes us meaner and much of our joy comes from how well we insulted our brothers and sisters who aren’t in our camp, there’s a disconnect somewhere. This isn’t throwing stones. It can happen to any of us.

One reason i’ve had to take some social media breaks along the way was that I didn’t like what it was doing to my heart. I didn’t like that it was increasing the number of people I didn’t like. That’s bad fruit, folks.

An honest appraisal of our own hearts is a crucial practice. We can be right about a thing with a wrong heart and God’s going to look straight through that right thing to that wrong heart.

The page has turned. It’s a new day and God is definitely doing a new thing. Don’t get stuck in the past and miss what God is doing now. It’s time to let that thing go. It’s time to move on from what was and step into what is. There’s no more grace for that —don’t waste the grace for this lamenting that. Obsessing about what hasn’t happened, who didn’t come through for you, what doors shut or what disappointed, discouraged or disillusioned you will not move you towards your God given purpose. Place all that in the hands of God and trust him to restore to you the YEARS that the locusts have eaten and double what you lost. God is no persons debtor. He can do in a moment what would normally take decades. Fix your eyes in Jesus. Believe God. Trust God. Hope in God.
