Protests have erupted in Egypt’s Dakahlia Governorate after the death of Ayman Sabry, a young man who reportedly died under torture while in police custody at Belqas police station.

Local residents gathered outside the Belqas courthouse demanding justice, as news of Sabry’s death spread, with his body reportedly showing visible signs of torture, sparking anger and outrage.

Security forces were swiftly deployed to contain the crowds, but clashes soon broke out between demonstrators and police in the surrounding streets.

The incident has reignited public criticism of police abuse and lack of accountability in Egypt, especially in rural governorates where allegations of torture are often overlooked.

Protesters chanted against the Egyptian regime and called for those responsible to be held to account.
