@JamesAFurey I did lunch duty just to see what other people were packing for their kids. Mine like uncrustables, but can’t have peanutbutter at school. I found some at Target with “sunbutter” instead, and they seem to like them. Keep fighting the good fight 🤣

I was just talking about this topic with one of my former colleagues, and I know I sounded like an ancient relic when I said that I’ve seen great returns in student learning with more pencil and paper practice (and reading of words on an actual page!).

Did you know that children have weaker reading comprehension when reading on screens vs paper?

“Recent studies have begun to document salient differences in brain activity when reading on paper versus screens,” explaining weaker comprehension for digital reading.

I just learned that in Illinois, 50% of the school report card grade comes from graduation rate. Only 15% of the grade is tied to actual reading & math achievement. It, kind of, seems like that prioritizes passing kids on to graduation over actually making sure kids are learning

When I was a little baby teacher, my mentor and literacy coach Gail Gannon taught me about the power of simple poetry and pocket charts when teaching concepts of print and early literacy skills. 15 years later and I am so stoked to get to do it with my own children 💕📚
