Yesterday we approved Dr. Stuart Bell as the new president of the University of Florida. Dr. Bell was introduced by Chairman Mori Housaini, who gave a great summary of the incredibly impressive accomplishments of the university (see video). Dr. Bell, thanks for picking up the baton to lead this legacy into an even greater future. God Bless, and Godspeed!

My Letter to the Editor to The Alligator: "Sasha Morel’s June 5, 2026 Opinion piece made some interesting points. However, we should be clear that DEI, in its many varied forms, isn’t mere “politics” for our state universities. Policies governing who gets accepted and who doesn’t, which professors get hired and which do not, which programs and research get funded and which do not, are foundational policies that strike to the core mission of a university. Having students and faculty with a diversity of talents, ideas, and life experiences is very important to a university. At the same time, our 12 Florida state universities are heavily subsidized by hardworking Florida taxpayers, and most of them question the morality, ethics, and even purpose of a university discriminating against people purely based on a person’s ancestral genetics".

My thoughts are with my fellow Floridians as they begin to recover, repair & rebuild after Hurricane Ian. My father-in-law's restaurant in the Marco Island Marina was impacted by storm surge, but fortunately, it is being cleaned up now & they will be able to reopen this week.
