President John Dramani Mahama,

You stood at the UN General Assembly and declared the transatlantic slave trade the greatest injustice in human history. You even called for reparations from the countries that benefited.

But when it was time to back your words with global support, the United States, Israel, and Argentina rejected your position.

Now here is where it gets uncomfortable.

The same United States can accuse one Ghanaian of defrauding its citizens, and within months, you cooperate and hand that citizen over to face justice in America. Fast. Efficient. No hesitation.

But when Ghana loses over 1.4 billion cedis, and the man accused, Ken Ofori-Atta, runs to the United States, a country he does not even belong to, everything slows down.

No urgency. No results. No accountability.

So let’s stop dressing this up.

When America calls, you act.

When Ghana bleeds, you pause.

That is not justice. That is imbalance.

That is not diplomacy. That is weakness.

You cannot stand on a world stage and demand justice for the past while failing to enforce justice in the present.

Because leadership is not proven by speeches at the UN.

It is proven by what you tolerate at home.

Right now, what you are tolerating is telling the whole world one thing:

Ghana responds to power, but struggles to assert its own.

Fix that or stop talking about injustice altogether.

Today’s bible sermon is entitled “The smartest people are often the people that lack moral courage in our society.”

1. Our society builds a Value system where good children are those who don’t challenge authority. Those who are raised to raise their hands to answer questions; to be the teachers pet. To write names of talkatives. Those are the people we promote.

2. Our schools and institutions love those people.

3. But they are the least likely to develop a backbone. The audacity to dissent. They are driven by fear and an unquenchable need for approval.

4. Sadly, our public service and judiciary is filled with smart people. Smart people who know how to keep quiet and please the system.

5. They have no practice of standing up for themselves. And Infact, their own professional progression has shown them that if you kiss enough assess; if you look away when rot is around you, you will be rewarded.

6. It is sadly those who challenge authority. Those who report abuse and those who say this is wrong. They are labelled as “controversial”

7. This is the tragedy of Ghana. Smart people with no moral courage.

The United Kingdom signed an extradition treaty with the US in 1931.

Ghana was still a colony at the time. In 1971, the UK cancelled that treaty and negotiated a new one for themselves.

Ghana says that colonial treaty still binds us.

Since then, over 120 Ghanaians have been extradited to the US under that treaty. Hundreds of foreigners, including Anericans, have also been arrested by Ghana and handed over to America.

Zero (0) Americans have been extradited to Ghana by Armerica since 1931. Zero Ghanaians who run away to America have ever been brought back.

This is what my Tongu father calls Nkwasiabuo. Na only we dey that treay inside.
