I get being upset about trading a controllable starter for a bad defensive 3B (especially after the Devers saga). But Early has some injury red flags and people tend to overrate back of the rotation arms when they are cheap. Mead is top 30 in xwOBA while top 30 (best) in Whiff %

Like this for both sides although risk is higher for Sox. Mead has 80 games of hitting and the defense is brutal, but .800+ OPS guys don't come around anymore and swing is perfect for Fenway. Early has more value but not sure his ceiling is high. Bennett made him expendable

The speed is nice but his on base is .300, he has the second worst DRS among 2B (a stat Boone has backed a lot), he strikes out 30% of the time, and has given you a reason to believe he's a reliably bad playoff player. And that's ignoring the concerns of being engaged in the game
