Wanda Vázquez, Puerto Rico’s former governor, was charged with taking $300,000 in bribes from banker Julio Herrera Velutini to fire the regulator investigating his own bank. In the video, the masked agent can be seen walking through private backyards, searching each property’s patio, with his taser drawn… before walking away.

And we need to stop normalizing this.

The Fourth Amendment protects people against unreasonable searches and seizures, and requires the government to have a warrant, consent, or a recognized exception before entering private property to conduct a search.

Your backyard is still your private property.

Your constitutional rights don’t disappear because the person walking onto your property is wearing a badge.

And somehow, we’re being conditioned to see this as normal.

IT IS NOT NORMAL.

It should not be normal.

Because if the government can just walk onto your private property, with weapons drawn, and expect you to accept it… we’re not talking about immigration enforcement anymore.
