I wasn't that interested in the Arday story when it was plagiarism. It wasn't until I read the Guardian article that I thought "oh shit". As soon as I read the claims in the memoir and his life's trajectory I decided to look at the evidence myself.
I can't help that when I did I found countless contradictory statements, misinformation about autism, and a clear spine to some stories that suggests there was never an autism diagnosis and autism was being used to retrospectively explain the rapid ascent through academia which was increasingly inviting questions that couldn't be answered.

Very grateful to Benjamin Ryan for the recommendation. The full investigation lays out the evidence and chronology for anyone who wants to judge it for themselves.
I highly recommend this tour de force analysis by @Cartrarian of all the claims Jason Arday made about being autistic. Like his claims of being a major philanthropist, his assertions about having autism shifted with the winds and appear to have been manufactured for personal and professional expedience.
This piece also offers a full throated defense of the free press as well as a condemnation of both the denialism from the left by ideologues such as @owenjonesjourno and the unabashed racism from many people on the right where Arday’s story is concerned. It calls for accountability from Cambridge and credulous journalists who allowed the Arday myth-making machine to continue unfettered until Arday had flown too close to the sun.
@PhilipProudfoot@dantomlinsonmp Struggle is definitely coming. If this tech works the way the people building it want it to, it may even be more than that.
@PhilipProudfoot@dantomlinsonmp Work is shit and soul destroying. People would rather spend time with their families, playing sport, reading, or making art. Our goal should be to replace all human labour with machines so humans are free to live lives of value instead of wasting away in a warehouse or office
Arday's acolytes keep invoking his autism.
We’re told his autism matters when judging his conduct, criticism must account for his disability, that questioning him goes too far.
But there’s a problem...
Was Jason Arday actually autistic?
A thread🧵(1/24):
@PaulfrYorkshire I started this account because I was watching the Arday discourse on my burner and was outraged at the treatment of autism and autistic people by the left.
Lies about autism may not matter to you, that’s fine. But I’m autistic, and they matter to me. Jason Arday’s death changes absolutely nothing about what I have to say.
If you have an issue with me criticising statements arday made, you’re gonna have to take it up with him, not me.
With respect Paul, go fuck yourself. I didn’t kill Jason Arday. I didn’t make him plagiarise most of his work. I didn’t make him and institutions lie about autism. Using someone’s death to try and shut down criticism you don’t like is authoritarianism. If you don’t like what I have to say, jog on.
@ConradOliveira@heinz_kiosk If you want to play these games you’re verbally abusing an autistic man for combatting misinformation on autism. Why have you set your X account up just to abuse autistic people?
To Arday’s Acolytes - those still refusing to accept the evidence - I have a couple of questions.
Can you answer them?
1. Can you explain why Arday claimed in 2017/18 that Global Developmental Delay was itself autism - describing GDD as a “strand of autism”?
@OokZook@SendingRegards@TheOmniLiberal@mehdirhasan As an adult Destiny was engaging in sexual communications over children, ergo he is a paedophile. Doens't matter if it was 17 years ago or 17 days. A nonce is a nonce.

On BBC Radio 4, former Bloomsbury chief Alexandra Pringle defended the factual looseness of Arday’s memoir, arguing that memoir is subjective and “not journalism.”
During the discussion, Arday’s autism was again invoked as context when considering criticism of him. But was he ever actually autistic? Why can't we criticise his false and misleading claims on autism, given he claimed an autistic identity on the basis of a GDD diagnosis? Or that a "universal definition of autism is intellectual disability"??
Arday's "autism" is being weaponised to attack critics.
