CONFESSIONS II is the pinnacle of what pop musicians have been trying to achieve for the last fifteen years. since daft punk's Random Access Memories, every relevant artist has been desperate and foaming at the mouth for a front to back dance record (see: dua lipa's nothing burger Future Nostaliga, gaga's abortion Chromatica, beyonce's confetti vomit Renaissance), but leave it to deity incarnate Madonna to be the first to pull it off with serious mastery. total genius. the record sounds like it cost tens of millions of dollars to produce, the inertia from front to back makes you want to scream in the street and start a love revolution AND THEN.... it ends with a Ray of Light x Bedtime Stories x Erotica ecstasy of contrition. the entire breadth of dance music from the eighties onward exists while still having that one of a kind Madonna Thing: the ferocity of individuality, the pursuit of freedom, flagrant exhibitionism, self importance and creative fascination. everything you've ever wanted from Madonna is here and more. it's the kind of record to put on every day for three hours consecutively i cannot wait for this to define my life for the entirety of 2026 and the rest of my gay life
