On the 25th, LABA Valencia Lab opened its doors, the new space dedicated to audiovisual and multimedia creation, featuring new floors, equipment, and exhibition rooms.

LABA Valencia welcomes a new academic year with two days of celebration open to the entire community. Thursday 24 marks the official inauguration of the new academic year, and Friday 25 sees the opening of LABA Valencia Lab, the school's new space dedicated to audiovisual and multimedia creation, showcasing student talent through installations, motion graphics, and screenings.

"During the #MICME master's, I learned how to shape an idea from the very beginning through to bringing it to life, the different levels and perspectives of project development, mastering the software, conceptualising the idea, and thinking through technological development. Now I can think about different projects and how to approach them: #videoart, #lightart, #videomapping, #soundart. I can approach my work in many different ways, anticipate what I need to do to prepare a project in all its phases, and carry it through.
For my Final Major Project, I created "Sonic Artifacts", a sound and light installation using electromechanical components, running in real time through a generative system I wrote in TouchDesigner. Omada was another light art installation from the master's, created together with Theon Adam and Fadlhi, moving through space and transforming it through light."

The installation MEMORIES was created by Arwa Fayed, Michelle León and Frederic Coquillon as a Final Major Project of the MICME. International Master In Multimedia Creation For Live Shows, and exhibited at the MICME Interactive Art Festival at LABA VALENCIA.

The master's programme culminates each year in the edition of the MICME Interactive Art Festival. Over three days, the students present their installations to the public: interaction, sensors, light art, video mapping, sound art.

“Our installation, called Memories, is an audiovisual, immersive and interactive experience that explores how people interact through time. With the interactions of everyone present, it becomes a living, breathing artwork. It is something interesting and something new that we are bringing to the MICME Festival this year.

We have learned a great deal, especially TouchDesigner, MadMapper, a bit of everything, and putting it all together is great fun. My favourite is TouchDesigner, because you really can do anything with it and, for this project, for example, we have worked a lot with the interactivity of the visuals. And we are mixing the digital world with the physical world.

The first thing about this installation is, of course, its beauty, but also the experience, through your own participation. And I really want to see the smiles, and children, or even adults, playing around with all the visual colours of what they can see. This year's MICME features very diverse installations, across all kinds of media and interactivity, immersive experiences, so I invite people to come with a lot of curiosity.”

"This is me four years ago. My second day in Valencia, my first day at LABA VALENCIA. I had only decided a month before to say goodbye to the place that raised me and face an uncertain but exciting future. Today I'm closing this chapter as a better version of the person who arrived in 2022. These four years haven't been easy, but I wouldn't change a thing.
When I got to LABA VALENCIA, I only knew how to use Canva. Now I don't even remember how to use it. But beyond the tools, I learned something far more important — everything that comes before designing: the problem, the people, the concept, the story. I learned to design with intention. At LABA VALENCIA, I worked on real projects with real companies, collaborated with professionals, and through my classmates discovered passions I never would have explored otherwise.
What LABA VALENCIA gave me goes way beyond technical skills. A safe space where I feel understood and supported. I'm so grateful to the teachers who believed in me even at my lowest moments. Working and studying is hard, but it becomes easier when you love what you do and the people teaching you are just as passionate.
At LABA VALENCIA I've met people who have become my family. I'm leaving knowing myself better, embracing my sensitivity as a strength. Friendship, support and understanding are priceless. I would choose LABA VALENCIA a hundred times more."

Los documentales fotográficos realizados por los estudiantes de primero tienen una gran calidad, sensibilidad y profundidad. Desde Anna Ross, que pasó las navidades de regreso a su ciudad natal, San Antonio, Texas, para retratar como fotógrafo invisible el día a día de un enfermo terminal, pasando por Lucas Shaw, que documenta el deterioro de la que fue una de las avenidas principales de Ciudad de Panamá, hasta Rafaela Rivas, que realiza un reportaje sobre un taller de reparación de calzado en Valencia, todos los trabajos reflejan un profundo amor por la mirada fotográfica.

The diversity of your proposals is fascinating. No two projects are alike. This final year you've explored new territories: from speculative futures and digital narratives to creative coding applied to web design, the development of creative applications, editorial design, sound, AI and art direction.
